    Default Killed The Bearded Hen AKA Vern (long post)

    Well what a weekend. My buddy Devin (hardwood_hd) and I had been looking forward to our vacation so to speak for a little while now. I started it off by hunting friday morning.. seen a couple of turkeys but no shooters. Friday afternoon devin joined me at the cabin. We went bowfishing and we both killed a nice carp. Man what a blast. We then roosted turkeys friday night. We went out to our favorite restraunt Jakes to relax over a good meal. Saturday came and went in the turkey woods with us both seeing a strutter and devin seeing a jake as well. No shots. Saturday afternoon we got out the pellet gun and plinked around. I somehow put a swat type shot on a chipmunk at about 25 yards through the head. Couldnt do that again . We named a groundhog we had been hunting from the porch "donny" (inside joke). I missed him when i had a pretty good chance after we napped. Then i went out on the back porch again and seen him running for the hole uphill to me.. and needless to say he bit the dust with another head hunting shot. Once again roosted turkeys saturday night. Had excellent spots picked out for the gobbler but he somehow escaped us both. Saw a turkey with a beard out infront of me and was able to shoot it about 20-25 yards and to my suprise it was vern the bearded hen. What an awesome weekend. She had an 8 inch beard!!! She is currently at the taxidermist to be mounted. Thanks to devin for making the weekend a blast. Now its his turn to kill one. Here are some pics I'll let devin add the rest. And vern is another inside joke too.. p.m. me if you want to know. Its nothing rude or obnoxious either.

    dude congrats on shooting vernie!! thats something you might never do again, defiatly a trophy.. this weekend was a blast and i cant wait to do it next year.

    donny took one to the cheek with the .22 he did get points for the backflips he did down the hill however lol

    Congrats on all the kills!!!! Sounds like every animal in the woods with a nickname died this weekend. LOL
