    Default First Rio!!

Finally the drought is over! Caught this bad boy in the roost saturday morning and quick threw out the decoy and got ready. We did a little soft calling and when it hit the ground it lit up! It started strutting but then there were hens all around him and he wouldn't come. After about 15-20 minutes he couldn't take the jake decoy and made his way towards it. This bird was very wary it hung up at what I thought was 40 yards so I crumpled him. It turned out to be exactly 45 but he went down like a truck hit him. Gotta love that Indian Creek choke! Didn't weigh him but he has a 9" beard and one 1"spur and one 7/8" spur. I'm a happy boy! Time to break out the deep frier!

The type of car you drive doesnt matter. The only thing that matters is the size of the arm hanging out the window!

Congrats to you! What shell you pushing through that Indian Creek? I just got back from south of San Antonio Saturday night.

Only got to hunt turkeys one afternoon and a morning. Called three jakes within bow range but was waiting for at least a two year old.

They were definitely winding down where I was hunting. Pretty close beaked but still workable. Needed a couple more days. I want to try that again. Rio's are fun.

Hey fellow BPS lover! I settled on Federal 3 1/2" lead 2 1/4oz. #6 with the flight control wad.

I patterned about 8 loads including heavi 13 and federal heavy weight. Nothing was close except the Federal 2oz. high velocity flight control. On Saturdays bird I stopped counting at 7 head hits, who knows how many more hit the head and neck. Not to shabby for 45 yards! For those who say that #6 wont break bone at 40+, a flier shattered one of his legs above the joint. Here's a pic of my 40 yard pattern from last year.

Closed beaked is right! We hunted for two days and only heard them gobble on the roost. This guy gobbled once on the ground. No sounds at all during the day and nothing at night. Only when the sun was popping at 5:00 did we hear anything. Then at 5:15 nothing. Got this guy at 5:45 the first day. Luck shines sometimes.
