Default question for you longtime turkey hunters

As the season goes on & the hens get breed. Do the Toms respond better to calls. Right now in central Indiana Toms gobble good on roost & for a short period after hitting ground, after that it's tight lipped till roost. I think the Toms are roosting very near hens & soon as they hit the ground they stay hen'd up. Even the younger Jakes traveling together won't sound off in the late morning or afternoon. any words of advice???

that's exactly what they are doing around here right now... I've always had better luck in the 3rd and 4th weeks of the season when the hens are starting to nest full time. Best thing to do right now is try to set up on their normal travel routes and don't over call.

Yep, that is good advise, another thing I like to do when the birds aren't talking early is to sleep in and hit the woods around 9 or 9:30 am. this is about the time some hens go to nest leaving the gobblers all alone. if you hear one start to panick gobble, that means his girl friend headed to nest and left him. These birds usually come in on a rope. Good luck
