I haven't heard any gobbling here by home since last Friday evening. Went out a few evenings on the gravel pit...went out this morning on the gravel pit...saw and heard a hen but no gobbling. It was 20 degrees so that may be why, or he got shot during the youth season, though I haven't seen any sign of anyone up here, but who knows...Found a bunch of old and fresh scratchings on a ridge where I heard the bird gobble in the morning and evening last week.
What really gets me is missing the first two days of the opener....stuck at school...can't get out till Saturday. I'm keeping my hopes that like the last spring or two, haven't seen anyone up there when I've been hunting, maybe a truck or person one day out of the season.
I am going over to my boss' place tonight...he has about 60 acres bordering state land. Hunted there couple times last year, never ran into anyone, had one gobble there almost each time I went but he was off the state land and henned up. I was going to go there this morning but the garage door broke! lmbo!So I walked up to the gravel pit instead...the one thing I can laugh about this morning
I only got to go once to the land the guy from camp is letting me hunt, and he said I'll likely be the only one hunting it, so if there are birds there, they shouldn't be pressured.
I hate not having birds patterned or at least know where they are...I don't like to just go in blind.. I like having a slight advantage but oh well, I just try to think that is God is going to bless me with a turkey this year, he will, but I'll probably have to work my rear off, on top of school.
So good luck tomorrow and Friday everyone and appreciate the birds you have because around my area...seems like you have to work hard for em.
