Default Opinions on a Turkey Call

I saw this call being used last night on a hunting show and thought it was interesting and would like to hear some input on this call..

    Hen House Turkey Call........

The new Hen House gives every turkey hunter the ability to make at least three distinct volume and tone level calls simply by turning the dial on the bottom of the call. And, the striker included was matched to the call by Knight & Hale’s Ultimate Hunting Team. Now, callers can go from a quiet, natural-sounding tree call to a loud, raspy yelp with just a turn of the dial.

    This call is listing for..$23.90

So guys/gals lets here the opinions.. I'm in need of a call for my first Solo/friend Turkey Hunt this spring...

First solo/friend huting trip......so you're hunting alone then huh? LMAO.

Calls are a lot like bows, it's more the user then the call itself. If it peaks your curiousity then try it, but practice a ton before May 1st.

Side note*** Knight & Hale makes great calls and I've never heard a bad thing about them.

I feel the same way! But dont get me wrong Knight & Hale do make some great calls! I have there Deer Translator and I know its works!

I would stick to the basic slate type call! Me personally, I like the Primos Frictionte, and I just bought the Power Crystal call. Last year I also bought a real slate call at the PA Sportsman show. Its slate over glass, man does it make some very sweet soft calls!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR MAY WILL NEVER GET HERE FAST ENOUGH!!!!

My first slate type call was and still is the Primos with Frictionite. Try that call first, I still think is has great sound.

I bought this slate call this year and I personally like the sound and the diversity of tones it can deliver. Then you can multiply that diversity by getting various strikers to use on it other than the factory one.

I feel the same way. You can make different tones and an infinite choice of volumes on just about any quality slate call without a "dial it in" knob. Just experiment with the different positions on a slate call. You will find, the closer you get to the edge of the pot, the higher in pitch the tone level is. Different amounts of pressure on the sticker can change the volume. Also different strikers will give you different tones and volumes too. I always carry at least 3 extra strikers with me.

VH keep it simple at 1st and choose maybe 2 different quality slate calls and maybe get an extra stiker or 2. You'll get at least one with each call anyway. VT highly suggested you get the Freak and you know it worked for you last year. You ought to have some confidence in that call. Choose another one that has a different type striker (which usually just means a different brand) and then it's just a matter of experimenting and practicing to adjust tone and volume levels using both strikers on each call and different positions on the calls. Hope you don't drive you wife nuts.
