Default Is it April or January?

I was bow hunting deer yesterday and as I walked in several birds were roosted above me and flew as I crunched around in the dark.

At sun up there must have been a half dozen more clucking away in nearby trees. Then the gobblers (at least 2) chimed in. This went on for about a half hour. Then the hens flew down and they left. About an hour later here they come again. More clucking from the hens and gobbling from the toms. I usually don't hear that much talking in April let alone January! When do toms generally start gobbling?

    Strangest thing...
I spotted those hens a week ago (about 12) and every one had a beard dragging the ground!

I heard one gobble back in November. Pretty cool.

I saw about 20 today scratching around a picked soybean field.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.

Sometimes they will gobble every now and then on the roost but never off of it.

I never actually saw them, perhaps the gobbler was on the roost the whole time.

Boy came in a little while ago and said he heard a gobble. I guess a dog was barking over in town and the bird went off right behind the house here. Funny thing is..........we're getting a freaking blizzard right now!!!

I thought that too until deer gun season this year when i called in a gobbling tom twice. He must have gobbled 30 times as he walked up to me. Really a treat to see and hear.
