Default roosted 8 birds for tomorrow's IOWA YOUTH SEASON

Here in Iowa we have a special youth season like many other states. I have been watching 8 birds for the last two weeks. Tonight I roosted them in the same tree that they have been using. (NOTE: with my usual luck they usually move the night before). Tomorrow is opening morning and I will be taking off work until 9:00 am so that we might bag one of these birds. The double bull blinds have been set up in that area for 5 days, 125 yards from the roost, so we are ready!!
4:45 - 5:00 am we will be in the blind.

I will be taking a little guy that went with me last year. We saw some turkeys, however, all were hens. Even seeing a hen he got so EXCITED!!! I just hope that my calling is on, the decoys set just right and the birds cooperate.

We practiced with his shooting tonight and he was right on at 20 yards. Hope that he is on tomorrow with a bird in front of him (and all the excitement).

I don't know who is more excited me or him!!!! LOL

    Good luck to all

Good luck. I will be out tomorrow kicking off weekend number 2 of our Youth Learn To Hunt Program. I have a young lady and her mom going with me. The guys are putting all the women with me. I don't know if I can take 12 more hours with two women in a blind I'm just kidding. They are some of the best learners. They don't already know everything like us guys think we do.

    Hope you smack one!

Good luck to you both. Hope he gets one, but regardless I'm sure he'll have a good time.

    UPDATE:

Got into the blind at 4:45 this morning. Birds started to gobble at 6:05... about 125 yards away. They did not fly down until 7:00 am...maybe a coyote in the area? We were very quiet on the way in. One hen lands 50 yards away and the other 6 about 100 yards away. The hen briefly checks out the decoys and heads off to join the others over the hill. 3 minutes later a lagging tom appears abot 30 - 35 yards down the fenceline. He briefly looks at the decoys (including a strutting jake from Primos) and heads off to join the others over the hill. He paid no attention to the decoys or my calls.

I did not let the youngster take the shot since the tom was walking and 34 yards would have been pushing this kids limit. He was really excited and actually had the bead in the bird and was waiting for my OK (which never came).

We watched them strut later and saw where they went. As a result we moved the blind 200 yards to the north in the hope that they follow the same pattern tomorrow.

He had a great morning and I don't believe I have ever heard that many thank you's.

    good luck to all
