    Default Turkeys 2... me...0

First two days of turkey season... Yesterday morning I had one so close I could hear him spit and drum. Trouble was I was looking the wrong way. Had one gobbling in front of me and repositioned to keep an eye in that direction. He must of spotted me. A cluck and the sound of a bird running. Oh, well!

Went back to the same spot this morning in the rain. Got there in plenty of time. Got settled in and shortly had my legs fall asleep. Tried to reposition and the sound of wings flying off! They were roosted right there. Three hensd came by later with a jake in tow. A gobbler was going hoarse looking for some ladies to join him. He was across the road someplace. Probably afraid to come across. There were so many spectators looking for turkeys in the fields it was ridiculous. One guy drove up and back 10 times...

Try a ground blind. They are more torerant of the cheaper material blinds unlike deer.

I got my best Turkey ever out of a deal like this:

Here's a newer version even cheaper:

I just got a good deal on a ground blind. Never had much use for one in my run and gun style of turkey hunting. Was not the first time I got caught by a turkey. Probably won't be the last. You know if they could smell like a deer you would never kill one! Sometimes you are the bear sometimes the bait...

I learned a little patience on my SC trip with Leo and will be sitting it out all day tomorrow. Maybe this guy will show up...

Put your decoys out but facing in towards your blind. Sometimes they even come in without making much noise. Good luck!

Pressured birds get decoy shy pretty quick. If you have one "hang up" when he sees the decoy leave the dekes at home

It ended up 5 -0 on this permit. Not to say I didn't have any action. Just didn't score.
