    Default turkey barrels?

how many of you use turkey barrels on your shotgun, and do you find it really makes a difference? reason why i'm asking is, i was given a Mossberg 535 12 ga. for Christmas, with the waterfowl, slug, and turkey barrels (interchangeable)...i was patterning it in the other day and couldn't believe the recoil! i was shooting 3inch mag #6 turkey loads. just wondering if it's the shorter barrel or the shot, and if it's worth using the longer waterfowl barrel instead? any help greatly appreciated, for me and my shoulder, haha...

Face it. 3" magnum shotguns kick.

The only recoil reduction you would get from a longer barrel would be due to slightly more weight. You won't notice it. Maybe put a better, aftermarket recoil pad on the gun if it botheers you too much.

So, now you're ready to try some 3 1/2 inch shells in it? LOL

Well...you won't notice the recoil as much when you're pulling the trigger on ol' jellyhead.

I'm with Strut regarding the aftermarket recoil pad. That's really your only option if it bothers you.

The Waterfowl barrel with a good aftermarket turkey choke will frequently pattern better and kick a little less than the shorter "Turkey Barrel".

A recoil pad helps. So does patterning with the magazine full of turkey loads and the plug removed. 4 extra turkey loads in the gun adds about a 1/2 pound to the total weight. That makes a big difference at the bench
