Default Who here practices their mouth calling during the off-season.

I am trying to improve my skills and want to get good enough to go on stage and do it in front of a big crowd. I want to compete in a contest. As I type this out I am doing cutts and clucks.

I could be found with a mouth call in quite often throughout the year.

I've been using them for about 30 years and am still picking things up here and there.

I never got into competitions........I have listened to most all of the national champs past and present call in preson many times and I ain't in that league.

For me I think the hardest thing to do is a cluck. I can do everything else pretty well, but to make that chambered sound of a real cluck (opposed to more of a putt) is the hardest for me. I've found I'll practice in the car a lot with the windows down, like on the way to work. Even if you sound good it tends to annoy people eventually.

Thats why I go to the state park here in town, there is no turkeys in these woods, like others claim there are some.

I start practicing a little about a month before season and then I usually stop after season is over. Im not worried about sounding like a pro caller, and I have no intentions of competing in a contest. I can make all the basic sounds pretty well and I call in turkeys with them so its good enough for me.

I carry a Primos sonic dome diaphragm call in my fanny/back-pack during archery deer season as turkey is also in-season.

Like most of the others here, I usually practice a month before the season. After the season closes, they usually get put away because of all the chores around the house take up most of my time.

I use to get into calling contests when I was younger, and placed in the top 10 a few times. Stopped competing many years ago because I feel that they are fixed.

The best "Judges" in my book are dead turkeys!!!
