Not 100 % sure I think it consists of bismuth/tin. The name comes from the fact that it's heavier than lead. The main benefits of it are better penetration and more energy down range. It also seems to holds its pattern better at longer ranges.

It is tungsten-nickel-iron.10%heavier than lead.26% greater down range energy.It is more exspensive but it is all I use for turkey hunting.I use the Remington brand.You can see a video on the shell at Remington.com.Winchester has a version also.

If you didn't find this out on the previous mentioned web site, I believe that the pellets are tear drop shaped which accounts for the better pattern consistency down range.

That is true.They also are not all the same size shot.Most are the same but some are not.I just know they work. They also don't like to be squeezed down a tight choke.The choke I use is .675.

Hevi-Shot: Its all about energy and they rank at the top.....need to shoot a Choke that will handle Hevi-Shot as well...
