Default Does anyone raise or have raised phesant?

I have some questions about raising phesant. If anyone has any knowledge let me know, I have a friend that raises them, and the roosters fight, the question is why, do you thin,, and any suggestions to help solve the problem.

one of my best friends dad gets birds every year. his birds peck each other bad. IMHO i think he has way to many birds in the pen and that is the main reason they go nuts on each other. I think whenever you have penned animals like that your gonna have your problems but i think less birds would help maybe thats the case with your friend

We used to have pheasants, and we still have ducks. Most likely they are fighting to establish dominance in the flock. The ducks fight all the time especially during the mating season to establish dominance. How many pheasants does he have in the pen?

I've raised them and they are, indeed, very aggressive toward one another. I think you will need to pretty much have them one per pen, especially the coc ks. Once one becomes dominant over another, he will just keep picking on it until it's dead.

    I have raised them also....
I hope I can explan this to you right.
When the birds got to fighting I went to the hatchery and told them my problem. I had to put these deals on all the birds. They look like kinda funny.Kinda like what you would see on a horse pulling a wagon that covers part of there vision.
These blinders that I call them, attach to there nose and a round piece sets off to the side of the head covering there side vision.
I had to put 50 of these things on.
It sounds kinda crazy but they really do work work....

My brother use to raise them, but they were kept in different cages. He didn't have many, so it wasn't hard to do but I would imagine it would get really pricey if you have a lot of them.

Maybe it is just a bird thing because I have seen chickens and turkeys (domestic) do the same thing.

I've never raised them, but I've been around plenty of pens.

The two methods that I've seen used are the little blinders Griz is talking about (little plastic thing that clips to their beaks) and one pen I used to go to clipped the beaks and spurs on the c o cks. They still fought, but they don't do any damage.

I have heard also about blinders. It seems the males will get kind of "cocky"

Been there done that-never again with pheasants. We had to put tar on them and they would pick on the little ones-peck at each other---dont miss those days!

When I get my falcon for falconry next spring, I am going to raise pheasants and use them as live bait and/or food for the falcon.

just like chickens.....I have them at points through the year for dog work and such.....I have a pen set up to get the roosters away from eachother. Still a pain in the butt, try not to get them more than two days ahead of time anymore, been spurred one too many times.

A friend of mine raised pheasants. He had them all in one pen. They would fight because they would always be missing feathers.
