Just got back a couple of hours ago, from my first Iowa trip of the year.
It was a great weekend, a bit warm as the temp. hit 76 on saturday.
All in all we saw 13 roosters, and 16 hens. The numbers may be down but i could tell. Its kinda funny it always seems that when the IDNR says the numbers are down we see more birds than usuall, when they say the numbers are up is seems we see less
more good news comes in the form of little blurry rockets, the quail numbers seem to be coming back up, several years ago a farmer took out a brushy fence row that borders my uncles property and hid, he had no right to do so but what is done is done, the fence row was the home af two large coveys of quail, after that we hardly ever saw any of the coveys, two years ago we started to see a small covey 8-12 birds that moved into a huge draw on the property, well the covey seems to be doing great and another bevey has joined them we ended up seeing about 30 of the little rockets taking home 4 of them, they still arnt to the leve; of hunting singles but as long as old man winter holds off all will be back to normal. Also saw a real nice 13 point about 30 yards away following a doe out of a draw as we took a break friday afternoon. looking forward to being back next weekend and hoefully some cooler temps.
here are some pics of dad and the dogs with there bounty.
