KINDA DEPENDS ON WHAT YOUR ALLOWED TO USE.HERE IN ILLINOIS ON STATE GROUND WE HAVE TO USE NON-TOXIC SHOT LIKE STEEL OR BISMUTH.I USE #4 STEEL WITH A MODIFIED CHOKE.WHEN WE GO TO SOUTH DAKOTA WE CAN USE LEAD,WHICH SEEMS TO KNOCK THE BIRDS DOWN BETTER,AND I USE A #5 OR #6 WITH A MODIFIED CHOKE.1100 IS A GOOD GUN,I HAVE ONE MYSELF.
If your hunting over pointing dogs go with an I/C choke, if flushing dogs go modified, even though i think I/C would still be your best choice, #5/#6 shot is all you need for pheasents..I hear of to many guys shooting #4's and bigger, all that is doing for ya is making the choke tighter.
I like #6 bismuth....it hits like a freakin train. But any good hard Shot will do the deal, copper plated is a plus.
winchester XX,Fiochi golden pheasent,Federal vital shok, remington express and such are good, BUT dont go with the cheap target or such loads as they have mostly soft shot in them. Ex. the buy four box log at wallmart shot will mame more birds than it will kill.
Ill just be walking kicking them up!

totally agree here with Aaron. although, Bismuth is too pricey for me.
early in the season i prefer a #6 magnum 2 3/4. later in the season i'll go with a magnum #5, and back that up with a 3" magnum #4. although i will say i bought a box of the 3" mag #4's 2 years ago and have yet to fire one round.
6's and 5's do just fine.
12 ga 2 3/4" 5 shot with 3 3/4 dram equiv. is my favorite load. 3" mag 2 or 4 shot in steel if I have to use non-toxic.
I've hunted pheasants almost all my life with a 28 gauge shooting #6's... a 12 gauge with #6's should do you just fine.
Thank, guys for all your input!
High Brass #6...............
Hey Fingers, what time am I suppose to be over?
I would love to hunt birds. I have been hunting every since i was old enough to carry my own gun and I have never hunted birds, other then Crow and Duck. I love quail and pheasant both. I could eat them twice a week.
Id love to find some good public land in Oklahoma/ Kansas to flush birds.
High brass 7 1/2's and 6's I found the best thing for ringnecks with a modified choke! If the birds are flushing farther away then try using 6's and 4's.

Man, over my ponting dog I shoot improved cylinder with 7 1/2s and 8 shot. Pheasants are thin skinned and it doesn't take much to bring them down at those distances. Anything more than that and there won;t be anything left to eat!

depends weither its wild birds or penn raised birds. They have thin skin but some of the late season wild birds ive shot have had feathering over and 1" thick, #8 shot wont punch threw that
but i guess it dosnt matter if ya shoot them in the head like your supposed to![]()
took the words right out of my mouth Aaron
there's a world of difference between pen and wild birds.
late season wild birds would laugh at #8's i think, unless you were extremely close, but in my experiences, you don't get extremely close to late season wild birds. they typically flush pretty far out.
LOL you guys are gonna kill me! 1st off thanks for all the helpful info!
2nd, I had to work this past weekend and didnt get to go! Ole well! Atleast ill know for next time!
