    Default Guided Pheasant hunt

fellas..last weekend I went on a guided pheasant hunt with a few buddies. I figured what the heck why not, it was close to home, the guide had about 400 acres he owns and manages for these types of hunt. I thought it had to be a great time!

I paid $120, my half, and we bought 21 birds (15 roosters, 6 chukkers). We harvested 18 of 21...which may sound fantastic, but not very challenging.

Don't get me wrong, it was in many ways fun, but in many ways no so fun. Basically, the birds didn't flush and required the guide to physically kick them and/or throw his hat at the bird. There was absolutely no element of suprise...AT ALL.

Heck...the bird were only 5 yards max when they did take off...in a few cases...5 feet.

Don't know if I'd do it again...
    Happy Hunting

Yeah, I've experienced the same thing at times. Not much you can do with pen raised birds.

It is a little fun though, and there are things the guys who set the birds can do to make it more fun, but then you risk having birds run off that you paid for.
Don't cry because it's over, smile because you were there.

I pheasant hunt at a couple game preserves here. One local & another one about 200 miles away. They are both great. They put the birds out & they do take off & fly. It is a great time. It is a blast & alot of fun. Would I rather go hunt wild birds , yes. But can't do that around here. I would love to go to the Dakotas on a pheasant hunting trip. In the meantime I will continue hunting the preserves here. At the ones I hunt the birds fly good & hunt simliar to wild ones. We get 24 or so, sometimes we get a dozen of them, sometimes we have got 20. As I said I love & would rather hunt wild birds but thats not a option here. My boys love it & it is a great time. Hopefully it will warm up here in a couple months & I plan on taking the boys to my buddies preserve.

I've been on a hunt like that before in southern Illinois. I think we only paid $40. My brother, dad, and I went as did my best friend and his dad. They five of us killed 15 birds, which is how many they put out for us. We had a great time. We had a guide and he had his two dogs. The dogs pointed and they pheasants flushed very well. If you didn't know they were pin raised you would have never been able to tell. It is a well ran operation. We didn't literally have to kick up a single bird. They flushed and then flew just like wild birds. We had a blast and I hope to get everyone together and do it all again.

Had the same experience once, I guess its more exciting than buying the meat at the grocery store, but I wont mess with it again.

I was invited to an end of the year pheasant shoot at a game farm. The last weekend they are open they need to get rid of all of their remaining pheasants. The lakes are fozen, so they invited out about 15-20 guys, The owner of the place put us in a circle around a small island. They had the phesants in a cage on the island.
They just started throwing birds in the air, a couple at a time, 225+ birds! The shooting lasted about 35 minutes.
