    Default Squirrel War

We like seeing the birds and we fill the feeder often. But those dang pesky tree rats spill the feeder and eat all the suet cakes I put out for the song birds. Shooting them with the airgun was a easy option. I opted to match wits with it.
I extended the feeder arm by 12", took the cover for the paper recycle bin. Drilled a hole in the center, placed it over the suet cake like a roof.
Watch what the squirrel can't do
I think I won. The same suet cake has been there for 4 days now and only the birds who are supposed to eat it..eat it. Woo HOO!

If I could only do that with my trash can... The little buggers chewed a hole in the lids of every can on my alley. Then they get in there when they run their route and shred everyones bags and drag bits of trash out into the alley.
    Another day, another mind-boggling adventure!

I'd say you're winning that war.

I'm winning so far...They are smart critters.
The best part Chris is watching him fall off the lid because his claws can't dig in as they reach under.
One little squirrel with a 1/2 of a tail jumped on it but did not hang on long and dropped too. They get frustrated and sit on the fence post flicking their tail until they leave or try again.

    LMAO.

What makes a grown man smile when he knows he's outwitted a stupid little varmint? LOL, I can remember the utter glee and giggle I got when I set out a mouse trap in my strawberry patch and baited it with a rotten strawberry.

OK, fess up. Who's giggling in the video, is that you, or one of your sons?

    Thats me giggling.
Some of vids all you heard was me laughing and the camera wiggling .
I even dropped the camera once as I raised my hands up in victory, (making the crowd noise) the 1st time I saw the squirrel fall.

You are so right about the little things that make grown men smile.

    ....I liked the giggling too!!!...-

-Hey, I hope I'm not out of place here ....but, when we trap marten, we always situate the martin boxes in stands of trees that aren't old growth.....just a thought....you might try placing your bird feeder(s) up in younger trees, thus eliminating the squirrel problem.

-That is; unless it is a squirrel fetish...?-(I didn't think so?)....

That bird feeder is mounted from a extended post behind the fence.
I have a steel 45degree arm, 18" with a 12" steel extension with a eye hook in the middle of the lid to hang the feeder.
We have loads of HUGE white oaks back here and the squirrel population is enormous as is the whitetail population
That feeder gets a good workout every morning so far. The one with a half of tail has not been back. My son Joe took a shot at that one with his bow and missed...kind of. He took the other half of his tail off
I get loads of entertainment from the critters that plague my backyard. I had coon/trash problems too. But, nothing that a coon cuff didn't cure
There is such a lack of critter control here in suburbia.
