    Default Can't find em!

    Man am i ever having a hard time finding the Partridge!!It's been awhile since i've hunted them(probably 11 yrs)!!Thought it would be good to get the boys in the woods more!!So saturday i took my six yr old(david)out hunting and it was his first hunt ever because in maine you have to be 10 to actually hunt!!It was a cold somewhat windy day and we didn't really go into the woods we just hunted the edge of the woods!!David didn't want to walk that far!!LOL!!We did however jump a doe taking a nap in a crp field!!We didn't give up though!!We tried to do it all over again Yesterday this time we took my oldest son(who can hunt) gary!!It was sunnier then saturday but almost as cold and windy!!We used the same stratagie we did on saturday!Thats the way i used to hunt them!!We had no luck whatsoever!!Is it to cold and windy??Where should i try next??I have never went after birds deep in the woods!!What should i do??What is the right weather to bring them out!!HELP!HELP!HELP!!!!!All help is greatly appreciated!!

    They'll be out in pretty much any weather. They love the sun, so look for any sunny spots in the woods like logs, rocks, stumps, even a sunny spot on the ground. They'll be sitting there warming up. They also like gravel to eat. Why the boneheads eat gravel is beyond me.

    I got 4 opening weekend (Sept 20) and saw 10 more, missed one and the others took off before I could get a shot. The past couple weekends have been slower however.

    Find the edges...When it is cold and windy up here in WI, we normally find them near the pines, if not alder thickets are the key. Early in the season like now, they are at all different food sources, find some different types of food sources-crabapples, grapes, whatever is in your area...Good luck, grouse are tasty!!!
