    Default your shotgun ??

What make and type of shotgun do you use for bird hunting? I have a Rem. 1100 20.ga semi, 11-87 12 ga. and I'm buying a Browning Citori o/u 20 ga. soon. I am also interested if any of you own a 28 ga, they sound like a neat shotgun for small game.

I use my rem 870 wingmaster 20 gauge. Don't really do much upland hunting anymore though. But this year, since my dogs is old enough, we'll probably take him pheasant hunting once or twice.

    Benelli Montefeltro 20 ga.

this is my "carry all day gun" and does the job on bunnies, pheasant, and doves if i point it in the right direction.

i love that gun, which reminds me; it's time to check it out and put a light coat of oil on it.

I use an old Remington 11-48 28 Gauge... it's my dad's gun and I grew up using it... I've taken it to South Dakota for pheasants a couple years with a group of guys... the guide asked me why I brought a bb gun to try to shoot pheasants LOL his other complaint was that I was about the only guy that didn't take the plug out of his gun... towards the end of the day when we it looked like we might end up short of our limit (which hardly ever happens) he came to me and said that the field we were going to usually has incredible burst of birds at the end and seeing as how I could drop more birds with my 3-shot bb gun than most of the guys with there uncorked 12 gauges if I would be willing to block so we could get our limit LOL

The 28 is a nice light gun that (unlike a .410) has a good pattern when shot... I use it on Upland birds and rabbits, also taken a few squirrels over the years with it... shells are of course more expensive. Recoil is considerably less than a 12 guage and also the comparison in weight of carrying a 12 guage versus a 28 guage all day in the field is incredible.

If your a good shot with a 20 gauge I don't think moving to a 28 would change your hit/miss quota much

    just my 2 cents

I generally carry a Browning Gold Hunter in 12 gauge...but a Franchi Alcione has my name on it before the end of the year.

I take my Charles Daly Empire Sporting Clays gun for all upland bird hunting. It handles good enough and shoots where I look. As long as I look in the right place. Anyhoo, its got 30" barrels that accept screw in chokes and the barrels are ported.

I just bought a Rem. .410, 11-48 semi- from my neighbor,
it should be lots of fun to shoot. I'm going to do the stock and reblue everything on it.

Back when I was running my Britt every available minute of the season, I used a Winchester 1400 12 ga. semi with a 22" VR barrel. It was the decided exception to the rule of " short barreled shotguns don't swing". I could not miss with that gun. Then I lost it in "The Big D".

Now I use either a Winchester 1200 pump 12 ga. with a 26" tube or a little Stoeger Uplander Special 20 ga. S/S with 24" tubes.

I"ve decided that the majority of my birds could easily be shot with a 20 ga. Why not take advantage of the lighter gun.I still have my 12 if needed.I will start going to the skeet range for practice.

i have a few toys for bird shooting, i have a ruger red label 12&28 gauge the 28 is perfect for preserve pheasents and quail, woodcock, and grouse. the 12 is my carry all gun and the one im the best shot with. I also have a 12 montifeltro like chris's i use it in the duck blind and pheasent hunts where im going to be walking all day long its light and hits where i point it. My last gun is a browning citori 12 mostly a target gun, i used it alot last year in the field and really got ina groove with it, to heavy to carry all day but solid as a rock and dont miss much.
