Pretty cool. How strong of a zoom lense were you using?

My camera has 10x zoom but these birds are pretty tame so I was probably only 15 feet away or so.

My class "A" school in the Coast Guard was located in Petaluma, California. One day I was sitting on the rec. deck watching TV. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a bird walk to the edge of the roof of the adjacent wing to our building, and hop down and walk right past the window. Then another did the same thing, then another, then another, etc. until about a dozen of those quail walked right past me. Pretty cool. It was the first time I ever saw that type of quail, and later one of the locals told me they were Valley Quail.

Beautiful bird. If they're anything like Bobwhites, they're good eating too.

that sure don't look like the quail we have here in oklahoma--the bobwhite is all you see around here.
