OK team, check in and lets hear some ideas for a team name.
Hummmmm...........looks like the rest of the team is AWOL this weekend.
As the team checks in lets introduce ourselves too. I'm 51 and an old hard core turkey hunter. I've been turkey hunting for over 30 years now. I live in central Mississippi and most (if not all) of my turkey hunting this year will be in this state. I participated in both of the previous RT turkey contest and killed birds both years. I honestly don't recall the last time I didn't kill at least 1 gobbler in the spring. I may be the 1st one on the team with an open season so I'll try to bag one early. During our season I'm taking at least one youngster turkey hunting and probably a rookie or two also. Just passing the tradition on.![]()
hi guys
Im 28 years old die hard hunter this will be my first turkey season But I have 2 very expierenced turkey hunters going out with me this year !!!!! I ve been watching and study everything I can get my hands on and hope to get 1 bird this year !!!
so what name are we going to come up with ?
Hey everyone....
Im 18 and going to Kansas State University right now for a double major in Wildlife Biology and Fisheries Biology. Im hoping to get a lot of time in the woods this spring. I was skunked last year but have high hopes this year. Hoping to so some filming as well with a buddy so wish me luck.
PS... Im going after em' with my bow also
Hello everyone my name is Lori and I'm 26 and last year was my first year turkey hunting. I live in missouri and our season opens april 18th. We have had them to start gobbling already. I seen 15 to 20 yesterday scratching in the woods. I don't know any good names for the team and this might sound stupied but here it goes Timber Shakers or Ground Shakers or Timber Earthquakes. Just an Idea. And also If I kill a turkey I will need someone to help me put it on the computer because I don't know to much about them just to type and click. Thanks guys.
Well that's 4 of us here so far.
Addct2hntng, you're in for a treat with this being your 1st year turkey hunting. I'll bet you'll be addicted to it by the time the season is over. It ruined my spring fishing years ago.
LOL with the bow tarbaby. I'm breaking mine out after I bag the 1st bird. We get 3 adult gobblers during our spring season.
Ozarkgal, great to see a lady in the ranks. How did you do last year? Sounds like you're already checking them out this year. Great! Sounds like you have a pretty good place to hunt. BTW, no name suggestions are stupid and there's no problem helping you out posting pics, etc. I've been there before too.
As far as names go, so far we have Timber Shakers, Ground Shakers, and Timber Earthquakes suggested. Do we want to wait on the others to check in, suggest other names or decide from Lori's suggestions? Your call team. I'm going to refrain from making a suggestion this year for a turkey team. They chose one of mine a couple of years ago and we lost.On the other hand though our deer contest team took the name I suggested this year and our team won. I'm not really too particular on a name though, one of Lori's suggestions is fine by me.
heres my 2 cents The Beard Stops Here or any of loris are fine![]()
how about Gobbler Getters... I dont know... im not a name person
I just wanted to let you know I got a PM from Gus. Gus was on my team last year. Her cousin (bigmacz71) is on our team this year but just hasn't checked in yet. Gus said he has some experience chasing turkeys. We'll look to here from him soon.
As far as team names, my favorite so far from the suggestions is Timber Shakers. I guess my thinking is the birds are going to shake some timber and we are going to do some shaking in the timber bustin some birds too.![]()
team name doesnt matter that much to me as long as we all get the dob jone. season starts here in ks on the 13th of april and im thinking bout taking that weekend off of work to get an early start.... I also broke out the video camera today.... need to buy a new battery for it though.. hope I can find one soon.. good luck to you all
Rhino you asked me how I done last year well I missed my first turkey.
It was about the 3 day we had been hunting and had seen tukeys out in the field but couldn't get them to come close. But on that third day we got out of the truck and hit the owl call and we heard one so my father and I took off. We got close enough and made a set. Dad starting using his mouth call and the tom would answer and kept getting closer and closer and when that tom gobbled it sound like the whole earth was shakking well he got to about 20 steps and he was spitting and drumming and I had never seen anything so awsome in my life. Dad was telling me to shoot the turkey but what he didn't know is that from my point the turkey was behind a tree and as soon as he stuck his head out I pulled the trigger and missed and away the tom went, I was so sick that day but dad assured me that would not be the last turkey I would miss in my lifetime. So maybe this year I will beable to shoot one and I got a new camera so we are going to tape our hunts. I hope everyone has good luck this year and be safe.
Im starting to think twice about going with my bow first... I think i might do like u Rhino and wait untill i bag the first bird... we get 2 tags in ks so hopefully i can fill em both

Ozarkgal sounds like that was a great hunt. You had everything you could ever want happen except for the bird to be flopping around on the ground. I've missed my share too and if I can keep turkey hunting for as long as I hope to, I'll miss some more. Good luck this year flippin that sucker over on his back.
Unless someone objects, I'll send MCH a PM and tell him we are da Timber Shakers![]()
Just curious how your season is starting out Rhino.. You lucky son of gun. I have about a month to wait still... Hope the birds are cooperating with down there.
Has anyone seen or heard any turkeys this year yet.
