Greetings everyone!
Although my time is limited and my presence more scarce around here, I thought I would try my best to add at least a few journal entries this year.
Just to bring things up to date...
My bow season has been uneventful for the most part. A very strange season so far actually. Up until two weeks ago, my favorite stand had gone stone cold. The deer were around but not during daylight hours. This has never happened before and really had me baffled.
Things changed though with the arrival of the pre-rut. I finally had my chance and missed cleanly - shot right over her back. A second opportunity presented itself with the same deer but daylight had faded too much and common sense prevailed. I didn't try it.
A couple weeks later a nice buck presented himself. The problem was, he had bionic ears! He came in fast from behind my stand and he heard the slightest swish of very quiet clothing as I prepared to draw. This was enough to make him look up at me and eventually move out of range before doing a double take. So much for that.
The good news is that the early antlerless gun hunt proved to be profitable for myself and my husband. I took a large button buck, that I thought was a doe and my husband shot a huge doe. We have meat in the freezer.
We saw alot of different bucks during the antlerless season and several more during the last couple weeks of the early bow season. Our hopes are high for future success.
Now its almost time for the regular WI gun season. My 70 something year old dad is coming in this Thursday from AR along with my best friend and her daughter from IL. We will join other family members this Saturday morning for the kick off of this 9 day event.
I will do my best to post stories here as they unfold.
