    Default Chrud\'s Journal

Time for a new journal for the 2004 season. Not too much going on now. There is a lot of snow on the ground, much more than the past few years. There are all kinds of deer tracks in the woods. Things haven't been real harsh so far, as far as temperature, so hopefully we'll have a good deer herd for the upcoming fall.

I found out how much I'm getting back in taxes this year. I was very happy to say the least. So, around the end of February or early to mid March, I'm planning on buying a new bow. I'm looking at the Hoyt XTEC, RazorTec, or maybe even the ViperTec. Can't wait to shoot a couple of them and see which one I'll get.

I did get a turkey permit this year. It's for April 14-18 in Zone 41. My brother got a permit for that same time. Can't wait to get out and do some turkey hunting this year. Hopefully I'll get a bird, that would be a great way to start the 2004 season.

I wouldn't mind seeing a hen turkey season in the winter months here. There has been about 8 or 9 hens here for about 4 hours total so far today. I took some picture out the window, they aren't real skiddish right now.

Right now the plan is to go and pick out a bow on March 5. We don't have school that day, so hopefully things in that shop won't be too busy. I ordered another Trophy Taker Original a couple days ago. I really like that rest and definately wanted another one on my new setup.

I bought my new bow today. The shop I bought it from (Outdoors Unlimited) is going out of business, the owner needs more time with his kids. So, everything was on sale! I only bought the bow, rest, sight, and quiver today. I will be adding more things once I get them. So, here it is.

Hoyt XTEC with Cam & 1/2 Performance System and XT 1000 Limbs
    Trophy Taker Original Rest
    HHA Extreme 5-Pin Sight
    Hoyt Quick-Detatch Quiver
    Scott Little Goose Release

I thinking of maybe shoot Carbon Express arrows again at first. The bow is set at 65 pounds (with the Cam & 1/2, it feels more like 55 pounds) at 28". The bow was $600 and everything else was next to nothing. Got by for about $700 so far. Plus, I got a free hat, window sticker, and key chain.

I shot it a few times at the shop. I didn't want to put it down. All you Hoyt shooters, I now know what all the hype is about. Awesome bow.

I also ordered a dozen Carbon Express CX300 Camo Hunter arrow shafts in Advantage camo. I like the job a local archery guy does with fletching arrows, so I usually have him make them anyway. I also ordered a Vibracheck Isolator Stabilizer, 4 1/2" in Realtree Hardwoods Green HD to match my bow.

Just an update on my new setup.

Hoyt XTEC with Cam & 1/2 Performance System and XT 1000 Limbs
    Trophy Taker Original Rest
    HHA Extreme 5-Pin Sight
    Hoyt Quick-Detatch Quiver
    Scott Little Goose Release
Easton Carbon Evolution Arrows (Realtree Hardwoods Green HD, 340's)
Vibracheck Isoflex Stabilizer (Realtree Hardwoods Green HD)

I'm not sure which grain tip I'll be shooting, 100 or 125. I'm probably going to move up to 68 or 70 pounds later on.

The Carbon Evolution arrows are 10.01 GPI. I should get some decent speed out of them, but I should really get a good punch from them as far as kenetic energy. I can't wait to get it paper tuned and chronoed to see what my energy is.

Well I'm just about ready to get the finishing touches put on my bow. I got my vanes a couple days ago. I ordered the Easton Diamond 380's, two green and one white. They have the Easton logo on them and look neat. I also got some extra green nocks and inserts. Now I'm just waiting on my stabilizer. Can't wait to get it all ready and paper tuned. Then, all this snow needs to melt so I can start sighting in.

There is a 3D shoot this Sunday at the pro shop that I go to, it's also the place where I shoot an outdoor 3D league. I don't have my XTEC ready yet, so I went outside today and shot my Fred Bear Vapor 300 a little bit. It's still fairly accurate, but man, does that bow seem like a snail. I'm still confident with it and I guess I'm ready to go, if the rain holds off. It was good practice for me too, just to get used to my new Scott Little Goose release. I only have 2 arrows left for that bow, so I better be careful.

My brother and I are probably going to start scouting for turkeys in a week or two, season starts April 14. I'm going to setup my pop-up blind too. I made a nice bait trail right to the window last night. Turkeys are always in our yard in the winter, so we put some corn out there for them. It's funny watching 30 birds fighting over little piles of corn.

hey chrud. I've been wondering this since the first time I saw your name on here. Call me stupid if you want. But, how is your name pronounced? is it like shrud or more like crud?? I've lost sleep over that one before.

    The "ru" is silent.

Na, actually it is said like "krud." Then, most people at school take "Chrud" and add different endings to it, like "ly", "dy", or "...shut the h up." Nothing to lose sleep over.

Guess what I did today. The first person to guess will get my HHA sight.

Times up. I bought a new sight for my XTEC today. An Extreme Sniper XLT with 0.019 pins. I got that HHA for a real cheap price, so it's not a big loss. The Sniper XLT looks like it gathers light better in low-light conditions, so I went with that one, rather than the Sniper.

Antigo, Wisconsin is having a huge flood! I'll explain where I live and how it's effecting me.

I live north of Aniwa, but across the street, it's an Antigo address, and the city is about 8 miles away. We are having one of our worst floods in history. Highway 45, which is the main street through Antigo, is 2' deep with water. They released a dam and the water goes down a river, which passes our house twice. The two bridges are under about 4" of water, which is about 15' down to the bottom of the river. Luckily, we live up on a big hill.

This is unreal! I took some pictures and will get some more tomorrow and post them as soon as I can. It is really nuts by us. The river is moving so fast, the west shoulder of a side road by us is washed away, it's now a 1' drop. I'll update you guys later if anything else big happens. Man, this is something.

Bad thing is that it's suppose to keep raining tonight. But, no school tomorrow. I'll get to do some scouting, because now all our snow is finally gone!

The flood is pretty much over. The water has gone down a lot and things are starting to get back to normal.

Took a walk out to the woods yesterday. Quite a bit a deer and turkey sign. Good, waterproof boots are a must. That snow is sneaky. Underneath, there is about 8" of water!

Did some turkey scouting today, also got permission for a bunch of land. We have about 4 or 5 brush blinds and other areas ready to go. Should be some awesome spots.

Added a peep sight and a wrist strap to my bow tonight. Plus, if you check out the Classifieds Forum, you'll see I have my 340s for sale. When I bought them, I emailed the folks at the ArcheryExperts.com and they told me I needed the 340s. Well, they are way over-spined. So, I got some Dominators to use until later on, when I get the C2's in 400s. I tell ya. That XTEC is one sweet shooter though. At least those 340s weren't too much money, some I'm not too bummed. And, the pro shop I go to said that they can order them for me. Nice guy.
