    Default Jaret\'s 2004 journal

Thought I'd just get this going even though my season doesn't start till November.

Well, another season is just about upon us. I'm really looking forward to it. I wish I was bowhunting this year and then I'd only have 14 days to go, but I'll be firearm hunting this year in Michigan with my dad. I got about 8 weeks to wait, but I got a lot of stuff I have to do to get ready.

But as corny as it may sound, this season I'm dedicating it to my grandfather Lon who died late July to pancreatic cancer. My grandfather was the one who really got me interested in fishing and hunting and for that and all the hunts we shared, I'll always be grateful. It stinks I couldn't get a deer while he was here, but I hope to get a nice bruiser this year . That or a nice size doe.

As for where me and my dad are hunting this year, I really don't have a clue. We could be hunting at my uncle's house again or we'll be doing the majority of our hunting at his new cabin. Across the road from the cabin is public land. Either way, I'm sure it'll be good hunting.

Well that's it for now. Just thought I'd get this thing started. I also hope to have some pics of where I'll be hunting . So stay tuned.

    Jaret,
Good luck this season. You dedicating your season to your grandfather is not corny at all. In my opinion it is very admirable, and shows how much you truly love and miss your loved one.

    Ok time for an update...

Well, I'm getting ready for my trip to Michigan. I'm leaving November 13th and will be up there till the 21st to do some deer hunting. I got my car fixed and ready to go, my Artic Shield boot insulators ready, as well as my camo and 20 gauge. It'll defintely nice being away for 8 days. I'm still deciding whether or not to call off for Friday and just leave then lol

Also one of my buddies at work shot a really nice 12pt buck. Big bodied buck with a nice rack. When he gets his pics developed, I'll see if I can post one to show you guys the brute.

This is going to be a long two weeks. I can't wait!

    Ok here's an update:

Opening day- We arrived at 6am. I sat in my spot till 10am. Didn't see a thing. Heard tons of shots but never saw anything come out of the woods, so we went to lunch and came back 2 hours later to sit some more.

I sat for a few more hours and then finally gave up cuz I wasn't seeing anything. I got up and wasn't 10 yards away from my spot when I heard a close shot. I go back to my spot and look out in the field to see a deer run across the field into the woods. I went back to my spot in hoping to see anymore come across the field, but didn't see anything but the hunter who shot it tracking the deer. So that concluded that day.

Next day- We came back to the same spot at 6am. We got to our spot for it to only start raining light 10 mins later. We stayed for 2 hours and then lefted.

Later on during the day, we left to try another spot. My dad got permission to some land from a guy he cut wood from. The land had some thick cover and some woods to it as well as a small creek running by. We seen a lot of rubs even a rub on a 8 inch tree. We were hoping to see something since the farmers were cutting down corn stalks in the field in front of us and heard close gun shots. So we stayed till the last bit of light, but didn't see anything at all. We heard some leaves crunching but weren't sure if it was a deer or a squirrel.

Today- We arrived at 6am. Once again it started raining. We were hoping it would stop, but it start getting a little heavier. So we called it day cuz it didn't quit at all.

I'm hoping to go back hopefully tomorrow, but there's a 50% chance it may rain, so we'll see.
