    Default baiting coyotes

Was considering saving the guts and the carcass from my doe to setup in my field to try to cut down on some of these coyotes. My field is wooded pretty well on all sides with a river winding around 2 of those sides. Was thinking about going to the end of my field closest to the bottom and making a drag with the guts along the woods edge and out into the field about 50 yards out. Anyone have any suggestions or thoughts?

works great! I always watch or get people to tell me were they guy there deer out, or were a cow is down and hunt the area, soemtimes I get lucky and get to them on the pile but not very often, I liek to call close to the site, the coyotes will remember they fed there before and are more likely to coem in to it and if a howler is involved they will be ticked another coyote is in there area of feeding! I have seen coyotes chewing on the bones of a cow that was killed the year before, it just sticks in there minds and helps with calling, I agree abotu trapping also, coyoteshave coem to adapt to human smell being onthe deer gutpiles and I say up here most are goen the first night!!Funny cosue if you bait them with anyhtign else it takes soem while before they coem in and untill all human smell is gone! I save all my fish guts from all spring and freeze them and ptu them out in late oct, I was finally gettign hits on them 3 weeks ago, abotu a month after I put them out, I knwo the coyotes knew they were there but coudl prob smell my scent on them from guttign out and dumping them!! I have not shot any off the 10 bait piles yet but ahve gpt at least 10 within a 1/2 miel of them!Bait really helps along with coyote pee, and skunk scent, I use them as cover up but also they work as a great attractant for the next tiem you call the area, they might not coem to the call first tiem you are there but within a few days will wander by and smell the pee form a intruder and next tiem you are in the area and if they even hear any sound they will be there to investigate couse they remember the scent of the intruder!! Scent and baits really help out in calling!!

Hey Bret, I have these parts in a cooler out in the garage. It is not really too warm here, but is above freezing. We still have a little over 2 1/2 weeks of deer season left. I know the smell when I dump this stuff out is going to be pretty right, but will it hurt to keep them in the cooler for that long before trying to bait them with the rotten guts and pieces parts?

Also any suggestions on an affordable call?

Thanks for the suggestions. Looked for calls at cabelas, but only found electronic callers. Who carries just plain calls like the howler call you mentioned?

One way to keep your bait in place is to freeze it in sop they can't drag it off-just soak your deer hide and stuff with a couple pails of water.

I have also been told that hanging the bait off the ground wrapped lightly in chicken wire will keep it from being dragged off....

Too warm here for it to be kept in place frozen to the ground. I have heard of hanging bait and I remember that I had posted something about hearing that from a buddy of mine in here probably, about 3 or 4 years ago.

Someone in here, not going to mention any names, said that was ridiculos and said that coyotes are too smart that they will not come to bait that is hanging.
