what do ya'll do with your coyotes.

i was wondering what ya'll do with your coyotes after you shoot em. some people say leave em with others skin em. is it worth my time to skin em. are they worth enough money? i jsut bought my first call today and going to go out sooner or later.so just tell me what ya'll think.thanks

I've been having mine skinned & tanned by my taxidermist. I really don't know what I'm going to do with all of them besides hang them in the garage. I guess I have a couple in the house also (at least as many that are allowed by my better half ).

I have not killed all that many of them. Actually I have never saved any of the coyotes I shot. Have thrown a few in the river, the snappers and aligator gars need to eat too. Have also shot a few that ran off after I knew I hit them and I kept on deer hunting. Have left a few lay after shooting them too.

i dont know i guess what i was trying to say is isnt it kinda unethical to just leave em there. i mean thats what we do with other varmits but it jsut seems like i shouldnt just leave em there. but i guess i have to shoot some first.

It can be unethical depending on the situation, IMO. In my area, yotes are thick as fleas and they wreak havoc on sheep, calves, deer populations, and the turkey. One mature yote can kill off quite a few poults before they mature.

Nobody hunts them, really, and they have the run of the county. There are so many coyotes that I commonly see them hunting in packs, 4-6 animals seems to be the average, however, on one hunt my partner and I counted at least a dozen in the span of about 3 minutes.

In this situation, I have no problem whackin' 'em and leavin' 'em. During the winter I do take the good hides and tan them myself.

I try to keep every bobcat I shoot unless it's ruined for some reason.

Why on earth would it be unethical to leave a varmint lay. They are very destructive. I will try to do some major thinning of the yotes around here after the deer season closes. I will probably just chunk them, but may try to sell some if I think I can do any good with them

I skin every one i shoot unless it is sick or badly damaged, i will not shoot them when the hides are not prime unless a rancher is having alot of problem with them!!I sell the hides! I do not agree with shootign a coyote in my AREA and leaving him, why do that, they can sell the whole coyotes for $25, or give them to someone to skin and use the resource, coyotes are classed as a natural resource, we have to pay a royaly of $1.20 i believe to the goverment for shooting them! Over all my years of huntign coyotes I ahve grown more respect for them than any other animal I hunt, they are the all around perfect animal to hunt, I do nto agreee 1 bit with the attitude most have about "kill them all" I hear that 100 times each fall when asking permission to hunt them, what peopel do not realize is coyotes are not the big killers most think,very few kill healthy deer unless starving themselves, they reproduce according to what the feed is like in the area! I hear alot of ranchers complaining about calves being killed, I always ask did you see a coyote kill them or did you see the coyote eating them, the anser the same each time,eating!! If there were not many coyotes look at the outbreak of mice, all rodents, what it would smell like when a dead animal is not cleaned up, they are a perfect scavenger!
I never have complained or said anythign abotu anyone shootign coyotes in a area were the pelts do not prime up good,or anyone shootign coyotes to help a rancher , were I have a problem is deer hunters up here or peopel who go for a saterday drive and shoot coyotes and leave them in the field to rot!I get mad when I see a perfect good coyote laying in a field that would be worth $40 but to someone who was willign to go to the work to do it or would pick it up and drop it off at the buyer!! I seen 5 so far this year dead in field that had perfect hides!
Also when we are on the topic I do not agree with huntign them or any animal during the pup season, When the pups are little, I learnt a lesson 8 years ago when i was cuttign firewood one spring with my shepard, I heard a commoton and ran over and she had a female coyote by the throat, i think she must of stuck her head down the hole and the mother came out, my dog killed the coyote, I came back the next day and seen the mother and there was 5 pups all around her crying and balled up beside her!Some were tryign to feed! I grabbed my .22 and shot them all couse there is no way they would of survived! it is one thing I will never forget and made me feel the worst I think I ever have in my life, but had to be done!I will not let a animal suffer and why would peopel kill adults when they have pups in the den!! Why i believe is becouse people have the attitude that coyotes are no good for nothign only good coyote is a dead one!I hear theat lots!! I do not agree with that and will not kill a coyote that time of the year or any animal no matter what!!

They are seen taking or trying to take calves, sheep, and goats around here on a fairly regular basis. I agree with your philosophy but coyotes can be very destructive to livestock at least in our area...that is the extent of my experience.

I'm interested in selling the hides myself. How hard is this to do? Who should I contact and what type of care should I take in tanning and skinning? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! No reason not to make full use of these critters, in my opinion!

hey guys does anyone know when the pup season is in montana. i wouldnt wan to kill the mama so she can raise the babies so there will be more to shoot next year.

I am not sure, I stop my huntign in middle of feb at the latest here, most of the breeding is started and if I shoot the mate of a female that is not bred I am afraid she will not find a mate and not get bred, sure this is great for those who do not want coyotes but I want more to shoot next year so I leave them alone, I am not exactly sure the gestation of coyotes, but i expect 60 days or around, so if they are breeding in feb then pups in april or so abouts,

Bret, so you can sell a yote having done nothing to it for $25. I know there used to be a bounty on em here years ago, but did not know anyone would pay that kind of money for them without having done anything to them. I really need to thin them out around here, and if I could make a few bucks in the process that would be great.

Around here last year you could sell a coyote for about $20.00 without doing a thing to it.
