Caught this one in a trap today. Could not believe how large it was. Believe it will go 45 pounds. I have seen some males that were bigger.

Awsome!! Looks like a nice color also!! (I was checking otu the fur sale on mondya and beaver and badger were the only 2 critters that actually really went up in price, the rest went way down![racoons did ok also] congrats on a nice catch!!
PS what do you use to catch them? Conibear, ? I really hear the snares work great on a run!
That's a nice lookin Beaver ...Have you ever eaten the tails ?
I'm just using steel jaw traps and setting them in their runs. So many around here the the warden said to get rid of as many as I could. They are more of a pest and do a lot of destructive damage to the trees and dam up the bayous. Have not tried eating them.

Just was reading a naturalist study on timber wolves in the Prince Albert National Park they studied their scat and 60% of their summer diet is made up of beaver. They must be easy to carry back to pups when they are little.
I just tagged another large one this week and had it weighed. It went fifty pounds even. I gave it to a tack shop that has a large display of stuffed animals and they wanted to mount it. It seemed smaller than the one in the picture above so I believe that one was well over fifty pounds.

Nice beaver. My son and I are going to try trapping for the first time this winter. Going to use connibears and if we are lucky we are going to bait up for the bobcats with the beaver meat.
Wow. That is a big beaver. Do you have pics of the fifty pounder?
WOW that thing is bigger than some CANADIAN beaver LMAO!!! my uncle is a trapper and i think the biggest pelt he got had a 74 inch circumference!
