Ohio To Set Bounty on Coyote?

i read in the columbus dispatch that Ohio is considering putting a $50 bounty on coyote soon.

the ODNR is against the policy because it will cost in the neighborhood of $800,000.

sureshot--the way you slay yotes, you could make quite a bit of money here in Ohio.

WOW!!! That would just about pay my gas to come down for a week sometime!!
I am just praying that that will never happen here, this winter the talk was around that the prices were higher and every person was out on snowmobile and whatever to get them,Coyotes to me are not a varmet they are the best game animal out there and I hate the "kill em all attitude that alot have"

I get $35 up here at the local shop but $50 would be even better. Would the pelts have to be neat though?

we're not even talking about pelts bud. produce a carcass and get your $50. don't know if you could turn around and sell the pelt on top of that too. don't know.

Heck.........even if it was 10 bucks it would help put more pressure on the rotten things. You's probably be able to sell the pelt as well. Years ago, in PA there was a bounty on fox. You took the hides somewhere to collect the bounty and they paid you and they split the nose of the pelt with a knife so you couldn't try to double-dip on the bounty money with the same fox. But the split nose did not affect the pelt quality, so you could still sell them.

They were gonna try a $5 bounty on them in Indiana, but the anti's won that war. Instead they are gonna put in a year round season.

Isn't this the same thing us "humans" did to desicrate the wolf. Shame on those state to offer bounties for any animal. The coyote is part of our natural ecosystem. I can't believe any state would offer this crap.--Rossman

well, the farm bureau is pretty powerful here in Ohio rossman. i agree with your statements to a degree too. i believe in balance.

if it's any consolation, i don't think the bounty will fly. then again, something must be done to bring the yote numbers down a little.

Michigan used to have a bounty on yotes also, but I don't think it really affected them that much. If I recall it wasn't much $$. We have way too many in my area, and I wish people would get out and take care of them, but fur prices aren't like Canada at all, isn't worth the trouble.

I think indiana has a $5 bounty well maybe its for Jefferson County though

Here in IL we have a year round season and we still have a major problem with the huge number of yotes eating shot deer. I for one can't wait to take both my bow and my rifle to the stand. Would be awsome for a double in one day. We can also take them by what ever means we desire and by any weapon. I like the bow and maybe a shotgun. It's a sad fact that when the deer thrive so do the yotes. Oh well, it just gives me something else to hunt in the off season.

Used to be a bounty on them here, but do not think there is one currently. We do have a pretty serious problem with the coyotes here though. Planning on taking my oldest daughter out Saturday or Sunday morning for a little while with her .243.
