I want a .17 bad. But it's in a long long list of things i want. I would think that .17 would put a dog down pretty well if placed in the right spot. Wouldnt be my first choice, since there isnt much mass to the bullet, but not a bad choice i dont think.

Curdog, where you taking your hogs at?

I was in the same boat as you, i wanted one really bad. I just bought a savege liminated stock with SS barrel and the accu triger what a beautiful lil gun.

My buddy bought one b4 me and i went hunting with him last year and i was blown away by the accuracy of this gun and how flat it shot.

Yeah, i just had to have a .22mag about 3 years ago, just had to have it! I think i've shot the thing about 10 times at some targets. First time i laid eyes on that .17, i never picked up that 22mag again, lol. I want it i want it i want it! Oh well, i needed a new bow more, so i got that, needed a youth rifle for the girls so i got that, needed a new... blah blah blah. Always got something we got to have dont we? I got guns i aint shot in 10 years or more, some i aint ever even shot.

Yo redkneck, I hunt along the Tombigbee River in the swamp. We have just as many hogs as deer.

Around Coffeville. Its about 1hr give or take SE of Clarke County Ms. I wish I hunted around Demopolis. That is some pretty land around the river. I like going through their in the spring seeing all the strutters in those fields. How close are you to Melvin. My GF's dad leases a cowpasture on the state line in Melvin. Seen some fine deer up their while feedin cows.

    Default 17hmr

I have a Remingon 597 17HMR and it probably eats more ammo than any gun in the safe. It pretty much stays in the truck from the last day of deer season to the first day of Black Powder. I have shot a lot of stuff with it Groundhogs, Squirrels, Possum, Raccoons, Foxes, (1) Gobbler, but not a coyote. The only thin I can say for sure is it is killer. I would not say it would be my go to gun for a dedicated coyote hunt, but kill one I think most definately and I would not be paticular about making a head shot. I prefer the XTP hollowpoints over the V-Max just personal preference. Honestly if I am shooting inside of 125 yards I actually prefer the .17 to my 22-250 for Groundhogs and they are tough critters.
