2 bands on eiders 1 on a black duck and 1 on a mallard all 4 were hear in Nova Scotia
I've been hunting for many years and have yet to kill a banded duck. I think the guys up north are killing them all before they can get here.
In 30 plus years of hunting waterfowl I have taken only two geese with bands, one in NY about ten years ago and one in CT this fall. There is four Canada geese wearing leg bands on the lake where I live, I saw them when they crossed the road a month ago.
I have shot many birds but never one with a band. Seems everyone I go with gets one!
I shot a snow goose in Manitoba two years ago that was banded.
My brother shot a banded Hen Mallard this year in Manitoba.
These were first bands for both of us in over 20 years of waterfowling.
It's those darn hunters down south who seem to be killing all the banded birds!![]()

I have one on a Green head MAllard!
My brother just emailed me and said his hen mallard was banded Sept 12, 2003 At Rochert, MN (Near Detroit Lakes, 60 miles East of Fargo/Moorhead). The info said it was hatched in 2002 or earlier.
So to recap. Hen mallard was banded in Minnesota, then killed 400 miles away in Manitoba by a Minnesota hunter, and then returned to Minnesota a year after being banded here.![]()
I've got 2 bands, one off a wood duck and one off of a canada goose. Both were killed here in N. Georgia. . . the wood duck was banded near Columbus Ky and the goose in south georgia close to Macon.
I've shot a pick up bed full of geese and ducks over the years and have ZERO bands to show for it.
Around here most all the birds we shoot are locals and very little banding goes on. I've seen a few geese with neck bands, of course either before or after season.
I hunt Lake Erie a couple times a year, but still no bands yet.
i have 2 bands!! i guess i am lucky. i have only been duck hunting hard for about 3 years now. i have a drake woodie that i killed on jackson lake in jackson, ga and a big canadian honker that about killed me with me trying to kill it.
It took me 35 years of waterfowling before I got my first one off a Greater Canada.
On the other hand, I took my 13 yr old out for his first goose hunt(first hunt fot anything) a few weeks ago. Would`nt you know, the very first goose he shoots, has a band. Doesn`t let me forget it either.

i have 5 that my uncle gave me, and 3 that i have shot/found.the first one i ever got i found on a dead duck.my brother shot a banded goose the same day. then i shot a banded greenhead about a month ago and then tonight i shot another banded greenhead in the same spot. so i guess i have been pretty fortunate since i have only been hunting for 5 years.

today my best bud and i were on out way home from hunting the river and there is this feed mill that burned down and there is grain all over the ground. there was about 40 to 50 mallards eating. so i looked through the binos and i saw 4 banded greenheads and 1 banded hen. so i hope to get a crack at em soon.
