Nice. Congrats. How much did they charge you for that ?
$175 (canadian)
were did you get him Justin ? Up in the harbour ?
yup just pour luck I got him too
Not to bust your bubble, but around here, that is a scrap duck...we don't even shoot em unless we are hard up. Just goes to show how different regions perceive things. If you are happy, then great!
may be a non shooter there, but up here and the east coast they are very rare. I have never seen one. If i got one i wouldn't hesitate to mount it.

Sure is. Congrats!
My brother shot a real pretty drake shoveler this year, but his wing was pretty beat up. He almost went to the taxidermist.
$175 Canadian is pretty reasonable price to have your hen mounted.
My taxidermist here in Minnesota charged me $80 (US) for a flying greenwing teal drake and $100 (US) for a flying sprig drake a couple of years ago.
I've killed several hens but just cant seem to get a drake on the water, once i do he'll got to the taxidermist, they're a beautiful duck i think.
I'm not aware that he does have email. He's got a small shop and has about a two year backlog of work. We (my family) have used him for a long time but it's always a face-to-face experience for us. We drop off a fish or bird, talk with him about what we want done, and then in a couple of years he calls or sends a postcard when he's finished. Next time I talk with him I'll ask if he does any shipping options for folks who live out of his area.
The drakes sure are pretty. They are pretty common down here.
kinda hard to see but the far right is a drake shovelor from last year.

Up in Manitoba this year, we shot several shovelers. Instead of taking them home, we decided to eat a bunch of them in camp.
We whipped up a quick bag of marinade (olive oil, Montreal Steak seasoning, diced onions...whatever we could find that looked good) breasted the birds and soaked them in the marinade for a day then cooked 'em on the bbq grill.
I tell you what, they didn't last long before they were comletely DEVOURED.
It's all in how you cook the birds I guess.
