Sunday May 1
After a long night of chatting around the fire and not much sleep we all get up bright and shiny and Sammy I head one direction, while Mason (bigmacz71) and Morgan head the other direction. About 10AM we all met back up at the cabin and nobody has got any birds, but Sammy and I had found a bird and tried working him earlier, but I guess he had some hens with him, so he wouldn’t come to us.
I told Mason I thought we could get this bird, so here all 4 of us go back hiking up towards this bird. We finally make it about 30 minutes later and he is still in the same area. The tom acts like he wants to play the game now, so we get to what we think is about 100 yards or so from him and I am putting up a jake and hen decoy and then Mason sees the bird, so we all hit the ground. Mason and I start up the calling and here comes not 1, but 2 toms. When they were about 30 yards away I pull the trigger and down goes the second longbeard for me this year at 12 o clock noon. We only get one of the birds, but is was well worth the long hike back up to get him.
He weighed in at 18.6 pounds, 9 5/8 beard and both spurs are 1 1/16.
