    Default Question for you ladies

I'm going to get my wife a deer rifle and was just wondering what you ladies like to shoot. I'd like to get something a little lite on kick because our grandson is going to start learning to shoot too. My ideas were between a 30/30, 243,and a 308 but I wanna make sure it has good knockdown too. Can ya help me out.....Thanx

I absolutely LOVE the 44 ruger I will be hunting with this year. My 9 year old son also shoots it, and doesn't have a problem with the kick. We went target practicing a few times last week and found that the 180 grain load was a lot kinder to the shoulder then the 240 grain we also shot.

You didn't say how old your grandson is, so I am assuming he is fairly young. If your grandson has never shot before, then I would start him with a youth model rifle. We got my son a nice one that was a .22 with an exchangable 410 barrell. It was just over $100 and while he has outgrown it, it will be great for him to pass down to his own kids. I think it is important that the gun fit young ones well so they feel comfortable and are safe when shooting. Plus you don't want to scare him off from shooting with a bigger gun if this is his first time.

Good luck and have fun hunting with the family!!

Well if you are looking for a gun that has a light recoil get a 243 I love my gun and would not trade it for anything. The only thing about the 243 is that is a very loud gun but if either one of them shoot at a deer they will not even know that it goes off.

Thanks for the input! We went shopping this week and she like the Marlin 30/30 the best. It was fairly lite , short and easy to handle. I put a Redfield 2X7 on it and she's bustin the bullseye! Cant wait till she take her first deer now. We're going the 13th, opening day. I bought us a doghouse blind and I'm going to take the video camera to hopefully record her first deer!
