Default A Question for the Tomboys

A Very close Relative is getting married and I was asked to be a bridesmaid. I’ve never worn a dress since a was a couple years old, and even then I was pulling at it and crying so bad (got pictures to). My wardrobe consists of mostly boys clothes, as most of you know girls Camo only comes in “Pretty Glittery Pink”. I don’t want to make her day and mine miserable if I’m in the wedding, but at the same time I don’t want to disappoint her.
What would you do if it were you?

I'm not a tomboy, but I'm going to give my two cents anyway! LOL

Wear the dress! It is only for a few hours, and you might find you like dressing up now and then. This is her special day and she thinks enough of you to ask you to be a bridesmaid, make this wedding planning process easier on her and just agree to wear whatever she picks out.

Suck it up and wear the dress, I bet you'll look great!

I was a tomboy until I got into junior high. I hated dresses and hated make up. I even had a fit when my mother insisted I wear a bra. It drove me crazy!!

But........when I figured out how "boys" looked at me differently when I DID dress up......it sure made it a lot easier.

Go ahead and wear the dress. Get someone to give you a 'make-over" so to speak. Get your hair done and your nails done. Enjoy being a "girl" and you will be amazed at the reaction you get. There's nothing wrong with wearing boy clothes and wearing camo and getting dirty outside. Just every now and then the guys want to see you in something pink and lacy.

I am a tomboy for sure, lol! Boys shorts, boys pants, lol! You sound like me NiteRunner. As much as we dislike dresses, find one that is comfortable and you can stand for a few hours and wear it,for the bride:-) Then afterwards you can run out to the car and put on that change of clothes you brought with you,lol

Good idea! Go to a MAC counter and they will give you a free make-over (some places want you to buy a couple things, but their prices aren't bad and you will probably want it all when they are done with you anyway!) The new fall colors are out, so you shouldn't have a problem finding some neutrals you would feel comfortable wearing!

Wear the dress. I like a woman who hunts, but also has the "girly" side..... I bet you will look very nice in it.

Wear the dress. Just think of this as your gift to your friend. Remember, this day is not about you.

I would recommend just wearing the dress for however long, but if it really does bother you that much, speak to the bride and tell her how much you hate dresses and frilly things.

If your miserable in dresses and things like that, you shouldn't risk being miserable in your relatives wedding, that might ruin a part of it. Ya know?

I hate to wear dresses but for my sister's wedding I thought I better wear the dress she wanted me to. Its only for a couple of hours its not so bad. I asked her if they could make me a camo dress and then I thought I was going to get slapped.

This reminds me of something I saw at a friend's wedding a few years back. One of the bridesmaids was really struggling with the high heels she had to wear. If you're not used to 'em, better practice some before the wedding!

A Make Over 2! You guys are killing me!
I suggested the Formal Sportsman website as a joke, that didn't go over well at all.
I've got one year to make up my mind, it's going to be a long one.
Thank you all though for your advice,
    Laura

Well, I think you should at least dress up for the wedding and then change into something more comfortable for the reception. Weddings rarely go over an hour, then you have another hour or so of pictures. So...what's 2 hours? Think of it as your "gift" to the bride. In the meantime...try doing different things with your hair and makeup and see what you like best. If you don't wear make up...go lightly until you feel comfortable with yourself. No one says you gotta look like a circus performer!
