Turkey Tip Contest Winner: Nick Carter

Congrats to Kansas turkey hunter Nick Carter, winner of Round Three of the Realtree Turkey Tips contest. One thing to remember when hunting turkeys is to present your calls and decoys in a unique way. Sometimes I have a hen decoy lying down and a jake decoy about to breed it. Then with your calling, make the hen sound excited! For instance, once you see a tom, do a regular series of four or five yelps. Once you get the tom’s attention and he gobbles or puffs up, yelp faster and more aggressively. That means then hen is getting more excited! It gets them every time! One time I had a tom on the other side of a field and got him to fly right into my decoys like this. I shot him at 17 yards. Try varying your calling and decoys like this, and I promise success will walk your way!
