Turkey Tips Contest Winner: Kimberly Wade
Congratulations to Kimberly Wade – our Round 2 pick in the Realtree Turkey Tips Contest. Her prize is a Yamaha hat in Realtree AP and a Knight & Hale “Tirade” Variable-Pitch box call. Here’s her winning tip:
I am an amateur turkey hunter. I have loved turkey hunting for six years now. I feel that amateurs can use tips also, so I am pleased to submit some advice that I practice. It is the thing that helps me the most personally. First of all, I use a Remington 11-87 12-gauge with a Winchester turkey load (#6 shot). My comfortable range is 40-50 yards. I really try to limit myself to 40 yards or less so that I can be fairly sure to get the kill. Sometimes in a partially open area, it is difficult to judge distance. Therefore the most important tip that I can advise for turkey hunters (especially ones that have not hunted very long, like me) is to use a rangefinder. As soon as I hear the gobble and choose my sitting tree, I quickly range the trees in the surrounding area, so that I can get an idea about where the gobbler should be when I shoot. BOOM! Good luck everyone and stay safe!
All of the winning tips we select will be eligible for the grand prize of not one, but two Blacks Creek Turkey Tuxedos, also in Realtree AP. One turkey vest for you and one for your hunting buddy – or maybe just two for you.
Enter your turkey tip in Round 3 of our Realtree Turkey Tips Contest by Friday, April 13. First prize is a Flex Cam Cell Phone Holder to video your turkey hunts (cell phone not provided!). Good luck!
