Art Helin

Art Helin of Dodgeville, Wisconsin, began hunting 25 years ago under the instruction of his father and grandmother. What started as small game and deer hunting in his home state grew to an obsession to hunt nearly every big game species across North America. Thus far, his adventures have allowed him to successfully harvest many animals including seven different big game species and four turkey species.  Although he enjoys any type of hunting, he is mad about whitetails and turkeys!

Art's hunting success and passion for teaching others has lead to his pro/field staffer positions for Realtree, New Archery Products, Hunter's Specialites, Moultrie, Ameristep, and Vortex. He promotes these and other companies and the great outdoors by working trade shows, attending retail store special events and providing in-store training to their employees, conducting seminars, and writing stories for outdoor media including North American Hunter, Cabela's Outfitter Journal, Wisconsin Sportsman, Perterson's Bowhunting, Outdoor Life, and Bowhunting.com.  Art and his wife, Michelle, are experienced in outdoor photography adn videography, adn have filmed for the Archer's Choice Media Productions and the Double Bull Archery video series.

When speaking with people, Art draws upon his own past experience, successes and failures, as well as the over 150 days per year in the field hunting, guiding, and scouting.  To assist him in scouting, he takes advantage of the tools and technology available including aerial adn topographical maps and trail cameras.  He has planted food plots for years, which started out small and often failing, and now just keep growing adn getting better year after year!  Art practices woodland management on his 40-acre property and has recently completed timber stand improvement and pond projects, and is eager to share what he has learned with all of us.

Art is busy promoting archery and hunting in his community when he's not afield.  He is president of the local National Wild Turkey Federation chapter, which hosts a highly successful, award-winning Learn to Turkey Hunt event.  In nine years, the event has grown from nine to over thirty new hunters, primarily women and youth.  Participants have also included children with chronic or terminal diseases from the United Special Sportsmen's Foundation.  In addition to the turkey hunt, Art is becoming involved in local youth deer hunts and turkey hunts for the disabled.  Art also teaches classes as a National Bowhunter Education Foundation Instructor.

Art lives in rural southwestern Wisconsin with his wife, Michelle, and daughters, Alana and Elizabeth.  While Art loves hunting, what he has really come to enjoy, even more, is hunting with his wife and daughters.  One of his proudest moments came when Alana shot her first longbeard turkey.  When he is not in the woods or working as a real estate appraiser, he is busy attending soccer and softball games, and dance recitals.
