My buddy Richard Reid from Grenada, MS is no stranger to tv viewers. He has been on countless Monster Bucks DVDs, Realtree Outdoors and Realtree Road Trips. His daughters Sydney and Sloane have also gotten in on the action! Well, make way for Russ Reid! He carries on the family hunting heritage quite nicely!
Check out this video of the buck he killed in Mississippi last year when he was 7 years old while his Dad was running camera!
Way to go Russ! Everybody at Realtree thinks you’re pretty awesome!
Happy New Year Everyone! Well, I guess it’s back to work now that the hunting season is over for me!
I just got back from the ATA (archery trade show ) in Indy and am about to head to Vegas for our annual SHOT show, which is the largest hunting trade show in the world . . .
BUT... I have to tell you how my deer hunt went in Texas with my Benelli Slug Gun!
Awesome!
The folks at Benelli sent in a 12 gauge Super Black Eagle II slug gun in All-Purpose Camo (of course), Nikon went in the SlugHunter 3X9X40 BDC 200 – 4 circle scope and Federal sent in 3” 1 oz. slugs in Federal Premium Barnes Expander 1525 muzzle velocity ammo. Roger Culpepper and I went to the range, and using the Caldwell Lead Sled, got that baby dialed in! Of course, as you saw on the last blog we were able to use the Nikon Spot On Ballistic Match Technology software @ nikonhunting.com to determine at what distances each circle would be accurate. Just before we left the ranch I smoked a silhouette target at 136 yards . . . right in the 12 ring!
What a hunt! And it was so much fun! Roger killed a great buck! Above is my 10 pointer that will gross right around 145”! Let me tell you, it will NOT be my last deer hunt with a slug gun! I was amazed at how accurate the gun was on the range and of course on the buck! I shot him at 90 yards out of a ground blind!
Thanks Benelli, Nikon and Federal Ammo!
