He’s a hunter, a father, and a down right normal guy who found out what a blog was on March 16, 2007. Welcome to the foundation of higher learning brought to you by David Blanton. (Sarcasm is accepted.)
Governor Sonny Perdue
Last week I had the privilege of joining our Governor, Sonny Perdue, for a few days of turkey hunting in the Black Hills of Wyoming and South Dakota. While on the trip, I described the Governor as an "avid" turkey hunter and he quickly corrected me, stating that he could be more aptly described as an "addicted" turkey hunter!
Anyway, he had killed all of the species of turkeys towards the Grand Slam except for the Merriams and what better spot for him to accomplish that feat than Seven J Outfitters in Sundance, WY. Simply put, they have the world's greatest Merriams turkey hunting out there!
This picture is the Governor's first Wyoming bird. Yes, for the first time Wyoming allowed hunters this spring to harvest two birds! The hunt for this 3 year old was classic. He gobbled at 5am in the dark, flew down with
hens, went the other way and after a couple of moves on our part, our guide Jeff Smith had the Governor in the perfect setup. Finally, the ol' bird came in and it was great video, all captured by Dan Johnson. The tom came in fairly close, gobbled several times, didn't like the decoy and began to circle. The Governor smoked him at 42 yards! The Grand Slam was complete!
