Wisconsin Fall Turkey Seasons Announced

Published by the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources | August 27, 2010 | 0 comments

The 2010 Fall Turkey hunting season will run from September 18 – November 18. As in 2009, there will be an extended fall season for Zones 1-5 ONLY, running from November 29 – December 31.

To hunt wild turkeys in Wisconsin a valid permit (carcass tag), fall turkey license, and Turkey Stamp are required. Permits are distributed using a preference drawing. To receive a permit to hunt wild turkeys in Wisconsin, you must apply by application. The application deadline for the fall 2010 season is August 2, 2010. Applications cost $3 and are available at any DNR Service Center, Licensing Agent, or by applying online. Successful applicants will be notified via mail by late-August and must then obtain their permit from any DNR Service Center or Licensing Agent.

Reminder: Hunters are reminded that the number of turkey hunting zones has been reduced to seven large zones instead of the previous 46 zones structure. Please refer to the 2010 Fall Turkey Hunting Regulations (found in the 2010 Wisconsin Small Game Hunting Regulations booklet) and/or zone map links on the Wild Turkey website for the 7-Zone Consolidation Map.

If permits remain after the drawing is complete, leftover permits will go on sale beginning Saturday, August 28th at 12 PM (noon). Permits will be available on-line at dnr.wi.gov, at any licensed sales vendor or by calling 1-877-WILICENSE (1-877-945-4236). Leftover permits will be issued on a one per-day basis.

Please note: Effective for the Fall 2010 Fall Turkey hunting season: hunters with a valid turkey permit and license may use dogs to hunt wild turkey throughout the state of Wisconsin.
