We are getting close to turkey season folks. And every year more and more folks are chasing birds with bows. To me, I think it is one of the hardest things to do (kill a turkey with a bow ) maybe because of my size when I go to draw my bow it looks like the whole woods comes alive. Kind of Predator-the-movie like. LOL!!!
Many of you are already aware of some of the new innovations in turkey hunting, but let’s talk about some of the hot stuff. One of the hottest things in the last few years is the pop up blind, in my opinion it is the single biggest reason for more turkeys' death by bow than any other invention. For some reason turkeys don’t mind them, but the con to it is it cuts down on the running and gunning. You have to get the turkey to you. But then we have the full strut decoy, like the Primos B-Mobile, and gobblers can’t stand it. They have to check it out.
Now let's discuss the broadheads in which we will whack the turkeys. One of the neatest broadheads out for turkeys is the Guillotine. With 2 models available, one in 2.5-inch cut and the other 4-inch cut, it is meant to aim for the head and lop it off (makes for great video). The con is it does not fly super well so you need to keep the shots close. Another popular route to go is a very large expandable, say 2-inch cut, to hit the small vitals of the animal. Now for the guys shooting the fixed blades, you should maybe put the grasshopper or adder points behind the head to slow penetration and keep the arrow in the turkey.
It's an exciting time to be in the woods. Oh yeah, another thing, try backing your bow down 8 to 10 pounds so it is easier to handle in cramped quarters.
Come see all of us at the NWTF National Convention in Atlanta Feb. 22-25.

Hey Travis
I can't wait for turkey season this year b/c I bought the B-Mobile and some mouth calls and I can't wait to try them. This past weekend I went to the The Great Outdoor Show in Perry,GA and it really wasn't that big. :( I want to go to the NWTF National Convention so bad but I don't think my dad wants to go. He said it is to much money but I would love to go, so I can met you and everybody from Realtree that is going to be there and learn more about turkey hunting. Talk to ya later and hope to see ya at the Convention.

hey does rangefinders with arc make a difference
Man, here in Northeast Indiana Turkeys are just starting to reach huntable levels. The State just opened Spring hunting this year in county I hunt. Numbers are low, so hunting is hard. I do take a pilgramige back home to Kentucky in the spring to experience some great turkey hunting, but long for the day when it is that good were I live. I have Turkey hunted for 11 years now, and have yet to bag a bird. I have had some close calls, and the thundering gobbles keep me coming back. My goal is to get my first bird with my shotgun. Then after that we will play some string music.
I am going on a Boar Hunt in Tenessee, this will help scratch that itch of waiting on Turkey Season.
I do like those pop up blinds. I have one from Ameri-step and it has been used heavily. It is also great for kids. It hides those video games they play. One nice thing about Indiana and it's Turkey Season; even if the turkey hunting is slow, it is the same time of year for those delicious Morel Mushrooms to start popping through the ground. Get a onion sack full of them and a basket full of Bluegill, man I don't think you can get much closer to heavan on earth. Dang, now you got me hungry....lol
Good luck this season with ol' Tom Foolery.

I saw a video with the Guillotine broad head...it is certainly effective! No one can say that a turkey suffers when hit by one of those things...makes me want to try archery hunting for turkeys!
Hey T-Bone,
Looks like I might be going to the NWTF Convention after all. Hope to see ya there. Talk to ya later.
