Easter Basket?

I hope everyone had a Happy Easter. I wanted to follow up this weekend with a question to those who had the opportunity to hunt turkeys over the past few days. Some of the guys at Realtree had some luck, while others said the birds were henned up and pretty quiet off the roost.

I'd like to get a summary from those who hunted. Post a comment on where you hunted over the weekend and your synopsis of what the birds are doing. And please email me a photo if you were successful. We'll post the birds on the blog! Just email them to prostaff@realtree.com with your name and the state you hunted. And you can give the beard and spur length as well.

Look forward to hearing from you.
Travis

    Hey T-Bone,
GA's Turkey Opener this weekend was awesome. I hunt just below Columbus,GA about 5 minutes outside of Lumpkin, GA. Saturday morning my uncle, my dad and I had gobblers everywhere but they had hens so it made it tough to hunt. That afternoon my dad and I set up on a food plot where we thought they would come back to roost and we would call every 10 minutes and about 7:15 pm I heard something walking in the woods beside me, so told my dad to call and when he did we had a gobbler walking in our direction & my heart was racing. The gobbler came 40 yards behind me and I could not get a shot but I was pumped. The gobbler could not see our decoys so he turned around & walk off. Sunday morning my dad and I went back to that same area to see if the gobbler was still there & he was, but never came to us. Let us know how y'all did. Talk to ya later.

    Hey T-Bone,
The comment that talks about hunting near Columbus, GA and about having a gobbler 40 yards away is mine. I forgot to put my name on it.

I with on a youth hunt in West TN this weekend. The gobblers were sounding off while on the roost but as soon as they hit the ground they shut up.

    Hey T-Bone,
I went to my lease in Hancock county. I had a good long beard come in gobbling pretty good, but he wouldn't come on in where I could get a shot. He expected the decoys to come on to him I guess. He was the only one that I heard Saturday morning. My father heard a bird gobble across the line and just as it stopped he said someone shot and it didn't gobble no more, lol. We had a good time, hope you had a good opening weekend. Take care.

Right before easter I had some success. All the birds were silent, and they were not coming in to any call I was presenting to them. So I decided to put on a spot and stalk. Finally I spotted some about 80 yards away. It took 20 minutes to get up on them. I checked the scene out, picked the biggest on out of the bunch, and waited. The birds were so close I decided just to use my hands. GOTCHA!! Boy was I proud. After I got my picture taken, I had the privilage of walking out the turkey to the check out aisle. It was an 18 lb turkey. The sub species was called a butterball. I haven't hunted for the butterballs before, but I will include this in my grand slam attempt. But man I tell you aisle 26 on the North end of the store was HOT that morning. What a hunt! I can't wait until I get it back from the Taxidermist!

OK... just funning with you. I have to have some comic releif, because turkey season doesn't come in until April 23rd for me. I hope everyone is having a good season down south. Anyone hunting with a Bow?? Can't wait to hear about everyones turkeys.
