With the season underway, I've heard of several big deer being shot, and hope to post some great photos soon. But what about you?
Anyone out there shot a good deer? Or even a doe?
Send me some stories and photos so I can post them on the blog.
Yours in archery,
Travis

Michigans season doesnt open untill oct 1st but we did have an early doe season this year so I went out with my bow friday night and shot 2 does, sorry no pics I had to get them cut up right away cause it was so warm. I did see 3 bucks that night. The one I could not believe it. It is a buck I have a million pics of. I call him stickers he's a small 2 1/2 year old eight point with 2 4" stickers comin out of his base. The crazy thing is that the place where I got all the pics of him was 2 1/2 miles away from the stand I was hunting fri night when he walked under me. what are the odds of that? especially this time of year.

Indiana season opens October 1. We do have a youth only season this coming weekend. My wife, my best friend, and myself are taking three youngens out next weekend. Their tags are for does, and they are allowed to use any weapon that is able to be used during any of the normal seasons. We got one on a bow, one on a muzzleloader, and one on a .410 shotgun. I do hope one of them are successful. I really think that will jumpstart my season. I think I am looking forward to them harvesting an animal more than me.

T-Bone,
Here is the deal. I am currently deployed to Iraq, but I am still a avid/obsessed hunter. So during these past 13 months I have been living Vicariously through my dad and two brothers back in Kentucky. My Dad has sacrificed so much of his time that he could be hunting throughout the years instilling good conservation techniques in my brothers and I, so this year for his birthday I decided to buy him a bow so that he could finally get into the woods more than 2 weeks a year. This would be the first deer season in 30 years that my dad has gotten to hit the deer woods with a bow at his side.
Now I had one single rule that he needed to follow, He was NOT allowed to shoot any deer off of the back deck, which if I might digress for a moment he has done each of the past 3 years.
Now rewind to yesterday when I recieve an email and attachment entitled "First Doe Down", my excitement is through the roof at this point, because this is the first deer anyone in the family/hunting family has killed this year. She is a beautiful doe, so I call my Dad to get the scoop if you will.
The first words out of my Dad's mouth is, "you are gonna be mad at me", I said, "I only gave you one rule, and you couldn't even follow it". Well I let him explain himself, and apparently this particular doe has been eating momma's flowers, and we all know that if Momma Ain't Happy, Ain't Nobody Happy. So He goes on to explain that he got up for work and was makin coffee after he got out of the shower, he looked out the window and there was the same doe standing next to the woods right out the back door, so he ran and got his brand new Reflex Charger bow, slowly opened the back door, stepped out onto the deck. He was afraid that if he stepped up to the railing that he would get busted, so he came to full draw, waited for a broadside shot and let that 28" beaman fly. She jumped straight up into the air and the crashed through the woods and piled up 30 yards away. He then goes and wakes up mom, they have their morning coffee, he calls work to tell them he is going to be late, because "something came up" and they proceed to go and find his magnificant first deer of the year.
Now you are probably, like I was thinking, man that is a great story, oh but T-Bone, it gets better. Right before our phone conversation is over, he tells me that he didn't tell me the whole story. It turns out that in his haste to get out onto the deck to shoot this deer he failed to stop and put on some stinkin clothes.
So the first deer of the year was taken, By my father, From the Deck, In His Underwear. I asked him, "so you were buck naked?" His answer was, " I had my release on".
I thought you might appreciate this one.

Hey T-Bone,
I have not been able to put a deer in the back of the truck yet. Opening weekend I only saw a coyote. This past weekend was a lot better, I at least got to see a deer's back side. Saturday morning I saw nothing. Saturday afternoon I had a deer blow at me about 7pm b/c the wind was trouble. Sunday morning I was right at the stand and I hear something running away but could not tell what it was til' it blew at me b/c of the wind. :( That was about it. Talk to ya later.
God Bless & Good Huntin'

Hey, the bow hunting for deer here in northwest montana is starting to get hot. I had a giant mule deer 5x5 at 73 yards but a cross wind keeped me from taking a shot. I did fill one of my whitetail doe tags and i also killed a pretty cinnamon colored black bear using the spot and stalk method. The elk have just started to start to bugle and it only gets better fron here.

We have layed the smack on a few booger B does, slow movement this past weekend. Saw a few good deer, 2-3 more weeks and it will be on. - Dilbeck
I live in Ohio and bow season opened sept.27 and have been seeing the bucks but not close to r stand. I decide to put some meat in the freezer and shot a little button buck on the second day of the hunt with my compound bow. Good luck to all you hunters out their and hunt safe.
T-Bone,
I had the worst opening weekend you could possibly imagine. My key to my bow case broke so I had to break into a $200 case. I wanted to shoot the evening before and my arrow rest had come loose and fallen off my bow. So get to the stand opening mourning to find out that the battery in my rangefinder has died. Saw no deer that mourning. Then in the evening six goats appeared out of the brush. They ran through and just about tore down the fence on the pin that I was sitting over. Oh yeah by the way we dont have any goats on that piece of property. So as I am climbing out of the stand I am almost down and look across a clearing and see a nice 10 pointer that I have a few trail cam pics of. So I had to spend the rest of the weekend tring to cath those goats and find out who they belong to. So nothing down yet hopefully my next trip will have a little better luck.
Hey T-Bone-
I saw you in Billings at the airport last saturday...I said hello but didn't recognize you until you were by me and talking with some other folks...anyway, wanted to ask how you did in MT? Milk River I presume? I was elk/deer hunting in Central MT that previous week. No elk but shot a beautiful 5x5 whitetail. I would send a pic but dont know how to attach it to this message board. Good Luck this year- we will be watching...
