Hey T-bone I just got back from an Illinois hunt with my dad. The weather was terrible mid 70's the first 4 days finaly on the last day we had a cold front move in and that got the deer moving a little better. We hunted hard all day without seeing to much of anything finally on the last day at 12:00 I saw movement out in front of me about 100 yards away. I raised my binoculars and seen two deer. The first was a smaller deer, but I could not see if it had a rack or not. The second one I could see was a buck and he looked like a shooter. I grunted and they disapeared into the thicket between us. a few minuts later the first deer which turned out to be a smaller buck popped out in front of me at about 20 yards and walked past me. I could only hope the bigger buck did the same. After a long minute or two I caught movement in front of me on the same trail. It was the bigger buck. I drew my bow and stopped him with a soft grunt. luckily he stopped broadside at 20 yards, in the last shooting lane I had. I rested the pin on his shoulder and let it fly. The arrow blew through both lungs and he piled up about 75 yards away. He turned out to be a nice little 120" 9pt, but I was pumped, especially after not seeing much for the first 4 days.

The other is a pic of me, my son, and my dad. With the buck he killed on oct 18th here in Michigan. I hunted the property next to where he shot the buck for 3 years. This summer while out scouting I kept seeing 2 nice bucks in this field so I contacted the farmer and was lucky enough to get permision for me and my dad to hunt there. The morning of the 18th my dad was hunting his stand, and I was in mine about 500 yards away. He saw this monster working a scrape just after first light about 150 yards away. A few grunts is all it took and this giant was on his way. He shot it at 25 yards, we decided to give him lots of time just incase. The last thing we wanted to do was jump this buck if he wasnt dead yet. We went out at about 8:00 that night and found him in a ditch about 300 yards away! We could not get over how wide he was. There were plenty of high fives to go around that night. It was the biggest deer he has ever shot. I green scored it at 162", his outside spread was 24 3/4" A great buck for anywhere but for here in MI its a once in a lifetime buck. Scott Withers-MI

Mike, clinton Township is very close to where we took this monster. Anywhere in the southern counties of Michigan there are oportunities for bucks like this. The genectics are there if the bucks can just live to be 3-1/2 to 4-1/2 years old. We need a better management plan to allow bucks the chance to grow older such as in Wisconsin with their "earn a buck" program. Hunters have to first bag an anterless deer to earn their buck tag. The program has worked there and they harvest more P&Y bucks than any other state. Their overall numbers or Deer may be less than ours but the heard is so well balanced. This means that only the stronger bigger bucks are able to bread and you should see what their buck poles look like. wow !

Hey mike I live in saginaw county but do almost all my hunting in shiawasse. My uncle just moved to barry county, I did some excavating work for him and everytime I was there seemed like I saw good bucks. I have been looking for some property to hunt down that way, especailly in calhoun, or ingham. If you have any good leeds, or could put me in contact with some land owners that would be interested in leasing, I would really appreciate it. you can email me at
