Did you happen to see the stars of Duck Dynasty on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night? Do you know who you didn’t see? Morrissey. Ever heard of him? Yeah, me neither. But, apparently the former lead singer of The Smiths cancelled his appearance on the show because he didn't want to share the spotlight with the Duck Dynasty cast.
According to Rolling Stone, Morrissey, an outspoken vegan and PETA advocate, cancelled his performance due to moral reasons. He’s quoted as saying, “As far as my reputation is concerned, I can't take the risk of being on a show alongside people who, in effect, amount to animal serial killers. If Jimmy cannot dump Duck Dynasty, then we must step away."
Kimmel reportedly sought a compromise with Morrissey, which included taping his performance earlier. When that didn’t work out, Kimmel replaced Morrissey with the band Churchill.
Being the good sports they are, the Ducky Dynasty guys made a joke of the whole thing and even created a commercial spoof promoting their fictitious vegan calls, which you can watch in the video above.
It was to have been Morrissey’s first performance since being admitted to the hospital and diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer last month. Morrissey resumed his tour in San Diego on Wednesday and is headed for a show at the Los Angeles Staples Center, which he has demanded be meat-free. Reportedly, the Staples Center has given in to the singer's request to make the concert 100 percent vegan. Even the McDonald's inside the center will be shut down during the event's duration. This isn't the first time the singer has made his feelings known. In 2009 he walked off a California stage because meat was being served at the concert.
So, I wonder, does Morrissey refuse to share the stage with all meat eaters, or just those who harvest their own meat? If his convictions are so strong, shouldn't he refuse to take ticket money from anyone but vegans?
So, what do you think about Morrissey refusing to share a stage with the Duck Dynasty cast?
