As a kid, Will Brantley rarely missed a day of Kentucky's squirrel season. When he got a little older, his focus shifted to bowhunting, turkey hunting and waterfowl hunting, but he still spends several days in the squirrel woods each fall. For years, his routine on the eve of opening day of deer season, since he couldn't sleep anyhow, was staying up all night watching hunting videos. Among his favorites was Whitetails in the Wild, Realtree's first-ever hunting video. Brantley still has that old VHS tape, and yes, it still plays.
Brantley learned early-on that he had an enjoyment -- and a knack -- for telling hunting stories. With a goal of being an outdoor writer, he attended Murray State University in Murray, Ky., majored in Print Journalism and never once thought of altering the course. After a lot of hard work and several lucky breaks, he landed an internship at Outdoor Life magazine in New York City. After graduating college, Brantley worked on the editorial staffs of FLW Outdoors magazine in Benton, Ky., and then Ducks Unlimited magazine in Memphis, Tenn. He freelanced on the side for a variety of outdoor publications and web sites, including Realtree.com.
Brantley became the editor of Realtree.com in the fall of 2009, and he has enjoyed every minute of it since. He lives in western Kentucky with his wife, Michelle, who is also an avid hunter.
