It wouldn’t be a 21st century deer camp if we didn’t have trail camera photos of big bucks to daydream over and slobber on. Here, the Buckmen pilfer through pictures to help decide where everyone will hunt.

Ever eat an E3 Tomahawk steak? Legend says they’re so big, they’ll eat you first. In all seriousness, prime ribeyes don’t get any bigger, juicier or tastier. They’re smack-yo-momma (don't smack your momma) and can-your-cook (the cook can stay, too) good. And in case you were wondering, that’s pretty darn delicious.

[Enter Australian accent] — Here in the great wilderness of the Buck Commander deer camp, a hunter preys on an E3 steak. In other words, Luke Bryan goes to war with a giant, bone-chilling Tomahawk.

In Case You Were Wondering . . .

My friend’s wife is a gentle and extremely naïve soul. She grew up in the city. And she once thought that beef came from the grocery store. The day that we finally broke the news that beef came from cows like the “pet cows” that ran in the pasture beside our house was a day of reckoning in prodigious proportions. So for any of you who also thought cows were just pets, this photo is for you. Your burger comes from a cow. And these are E3 beef cattle. They raise the meat they sell right there on the farm.

Scent control is a part of any sound pre-hunt routine. That’s why Tombo Martin sprays down before each hunt.

Grant Taylor, Willie Robertson, Luke Bryan and Ryan Langerhans converse in the wee hours of the morning. This is their early morning rendezvous before the hunt. With the looks on everyone’s faces, I can only imagine what’s being said.

Everyone heads out for the day and the concentration is just dripping off Luke Bryan’s face as he heads out for an evening hunt. You’d be hard-pressed to find someone who loves deer hunting as much as this fellow right here.

Bryan draws back and checks his shooting lanes before settling in for the hunt. It’s always good to be prepared for that moment of truth. The spot he hunted was riddled with sign.

Willie Robertson tells stories from the evening hunt. After all, it’s all about tall tines and tall tales when it’s all said and done, right? The stories of our most memorable hunts will live on much longer than we will.

Deer camp isn’t really deer camp until somebody brings back some venison to fry up, right? The Buck Commander crew certainly had no trouble doing that. They are buck commanders, after all.

“The real cowboy rides in the middle. He doesn’t drive or get the gate.” That’s what my father always said. But at the end of the day, someone still has to get the gate. My advice? Ride in the middle so you don’t have to.

It wouldn’t be a bona fide deer camp without big guns and lots of lead. Here Adam LaRoche does some target practice as they wrap up their deer camp for the year.
