Midwest Rut Report: Scrapes Popping and Young Bucks Chasing

Across the Midwest, we are roughly a month away from the heart of the whitetail rut; but signs of the breeding season are beginning to surface. In southern Michigan, scraping activity is steadily on the rise with large primary scrapes beginning to appear. Reports from Land Specialist Jason Schendt in Northern Nebraska indicate that younger bucks are starting to harass does and spar with one another. Schendt also reports an increase in small rubs and scrapes with daylight activity at a minimum amongst mature bucks, which appears to be the common thread across the region.
