Monster Bucks: David Blanton Tags a Texas Buck in February

This week on Monster Bucks, David Blanton heads to Texas on a late-season February deer hunt. Few states remain open that long, but Blanton decided to take advantage of the opportunity and put his Savage Arms rifle to work.

“It’s breaking day,” he said. “We’re hunting with Paul Holton Deer Hunts. It’s crazy, but these ranches that are under a management program, under certain conditions, they can hunt through February.”

Tactical Talk: There are certain conditions that spur deer to move, and the mercury bottoming out is one of them. During Blanton's hunt, it was 34 degrees with a brisk wind — pretty cold for that part of the world. Deer were moving in turn. Recognizing that, Blanton knew it was a good time to be out there.
