Monster Bucks: Mishap on an Open Country Buck

BROUGHT TO YOU BY Midway USA

Nick Mundt is spot-and-stalk hunting prairie whitetails in his home state of South Dakota. His first chance happens after a long sneak across a cut sunflower field — but the outcome isn't quite what Mundt had in mind. Shaking that off, Mundt and his guide slip to within range of a second buck, tending does in thick bulrushes. With daylight fading fast, the deer steps into the open for a 150-yard broadside shot.

Tactical Talk: While stalking the first deer, Mundt accidentally drops his rifle, apparently causing his bolt to bind up with dirt. It can happen to anyone. When stalking a deer, always do a quick check of your gear to be sure there are no obstructions and that everything is in safe, working order.
