Nestled in the mountains, Rincon De Luna is one of the most breath-taking and beautiful hunting destinations in Argentina. The morning started early, very early. We had set out before sunrise and we were on the hunt for the magnificent Water Buffalo.

As part of my preparation for my Argentinian hunting adventure, I’d read up a lot about these animals. Learning how water buffalo behave, their characteristics and unpredictable nature. These animals can be extremely elusive and even aggressive at times. The hunting team and I had a difficult day ahead but we were looking forward to the challenge.

The grounds at Rincon de Luna are so vast and incredibly treacherous with rocky outcrops and vast mountainous terrain, the scenery is simply breathtaking yet one wrong step can change everything.

After a challenging first day of scouting, climbing and navigating pretty much all day trying to get into a herd of buffalo.

We later found that the herd had eluded us so much that they even had time to rest. As we reached the top of the mountain range we discovered the pampas grass was flat in a circular formation, suggesting they had been laying there for some time.

After a long and exhausting day at Rincon de Luna as daylight began to diminish. I felt like I had left a piece of me out there on those hills. We decided to call it a day and try again tomorrow.

The morning started as they usually do at Rincon de Luna, very early. Morale within the group was high and we were looking forward to our second day of hunting in Argentina.

Oscar knows this place like the back of his hand. To the extent to which we call him the black buck because he just runs up and down these mountains and spots things from miles away.

It was getting dusk and the sun was just creeping behind the mountains and there was a chill in the air. We had started to put some extra layers on which is essential to stay warm in this type of terrain.

When you go out hunting in the morning you require extra layers. While hunting from dawn until dusk it’s essential to maintain body heat.

As we were heading back to the lodge and as we came around the ridge, much to our astonishment there was a magnificent buffalo.

There was a moment where we took some convincing to actually take the shot, not because it wasn’t a shot of a lifetime and a perfect opportunity, but because we knew that any minute it was going to get dark.

It was a lone buffalo, out on its own and it was just the perfect shot opportunity that had presented itself. It’s one of those moments, now or never.

The elation on my face at the moment I knew I had made a good shot is clear to see.

I never thought throughout the whole of this hunting trip to Argentina, I would manage to harvest such a magnificent buffalo. It was just phenomenal and I just can’t explain in words how I felt at that moment.
